Insert the tube to be tested into the proper socket and turn the Function switch to the TUBE TEST position. If you put an

25、eye out, electrocute yourself, smoke a valuable tube or the tester itself, rupture your spleen, or simply burn your weenie off during the resulting house fire, dont blame me. You were warned. Read and study the original military manual for your tester. Your tester is old and has the ability to easil

26、y remove you from the gene pool if it is in an unsafe operating condition or you lack the proper experience to work on or operate it. It operates with voltages that are potentially lethal to human life. Get it checked by someone familiar with the repair and maintenance of it. Get someone experienced

27、 with its operation to demonstrate the proper way to operate it. READ THE MANUAL. 4. Press the LINE ADJ. button P1 and adjust the LINE ADJUST control to bring the meter pointer up to the LINE TEST position (center scale). 5. Test for SHORTS on positions 1 through 5, inclusive. As noted in the NOTATI

28、ONS column, certain tubes may indicate shorts on certain positions even though tube is normal. If the short test reveals a short indication that is not indicated in the settings data, discard the tube. 1. Connect the line cord to a 110-125 volt, 50 to 1000 cycle A.C. power source and flip the POWER

29、switch to the ON position. 2. Set the SELECTORS and other controls to the positions indicated for the tube number you want to test as indicated in the settings data. Make sure that you read the comments in the NOTATIONS column for the PLATE and GRID connections as well as other important information

30、 for testing that particular number tube. If operating the BIAS dial will not permit the meter pointer to be brought down to one large scale division, turn the BIAS dial to 100 on its calibrated scale and test for gas, by holding P4 down and then pressing P5. An upscale movement of more than one small division indicates a gassy condit

32、ion inside the tube under test. 11. Now, repeat the SHORT TESTS one more time. Some shorts only show up after the tube has heated up a bit. Test for SHORTS on positions 1 through 5, inclusive. As noted in the NOTATIONS column of the settings data, certain tubes may indicate shorts on certain positio

33、ns even though the tube is normal. If the shorts test reveals a short not indicated in the settings data discard the tube. 7. Press the LINE ADJ. button P1 and adjust the LINE ADJUST control to bring the pointer of the meter up to LINE TEST position (center scale). ALWAYS perform the shorts test BEF

34、ORE you attempt any other tests on a tube. NEVER attempt to perform any other tests on any tube that failed the shorts test. Its an easy way to damage the tester. It has also been used for several decades as a method to summon demon aliens from the planet mho who will release the magic smoke from yo

35、u tube tester resulting in its destruction. 6. Set the SHORTS-MICROMHO switch to the scale position indicated in the settings data for the tube to be tested. 10. GAS TESTS : a. With all controls, except for the BIAS control, in the positions specified in the settings data, press P4 and then adjust t

36、he BIAS control until the meter indicates one large division on the micromho scale. b. While holding P4 down, press P5. If the tube under test contains gas, the meter pointer will move up-scale. A movement of more than one small division indicates a gassy condition inside of the tube under test. 8.

37、Check the NOTATIONS column. Then press the button or buttons indicated in the settings data under the column headed PRESS. DO NOT press any buttons other than the ones mentioned. Doing so can result in damage to the tester itself or the tube you are testing. 9. Tube mutual conductance values less th

38、an the minimum values indicated in the settings data or lower than the OK dial marking for diodes and rectifiers, or lower than the value specified in the NOTATIONS column, generally indicates an unsatisfactory tube. 39、ought out at two jacks labeled G and P respectively on the main panel of the tester. The NOTATIONS column will list the connections to make when these jacks are to be used in connection with testing a particular tube, using the accessory leads that should be supplied with your particular tester vari

40、ant. SPECIAL TUBE TYPES : VOLTAGE REGULATOR TUBES : Refer to the settings data for the proper test button and control settings to test these. The condition of the tube is indicated on the A scale of the meter. A good tube will cause the meter pointer to read to the right side of the line marked RECT

41、IFIERS OK. THYRATRONS : Set the controls as indicated in the settings data and set the BIAS control to 100. Insert the tube, then hold down the push button indicated in the column headed PRESS, and slowly rotate the BIAS control counterclockwise until the tube strikes as indicated by a sharp rise of

42、 the meter pointer and by a glow between the elements of the thyratron. DO NOT rotate the BIAS control past the point at which the tube strikes as this may cause excessive grid current to flow and may permanently damage the tube. A good tube will strike within the limits given in the settings data.

43、After a tube strikes, its condition is read on the A scale of the meter as you would a rectifier tube. TUNING EYE TUBES : These types of tubes are tested by applying a suitable standard test voltage to the control elements and noting the resulting effect on the eye. Refer to the settings data for pr
