Leakage-current or resistance measurements must be made to determine that exposed parts are acceptablyinsulated from the supply circuit before retuming the product to the cus
5、tomer.Some semiconductor (solid state) devices can be damaged easily by static electricity. Such components commonly are calledElectrostatically Sensitive (ES) Devices. Examples of typical ES devices are integrated circuits and some field effect transistors andsemiconductor chip components.The follo
6、wing techniques should be used to help reduce the incidence of component damage caused by static electricity.1. Immediately before handling any semiconductor component or semiconductor-equipped assembly, drain off any electrostatic charge onyour body by touching a known earth ground. Alternatively,
7、obtain and wear a commercially available discharging wrist strap device,which should be removed for potential shock reasons prior to applying power to the unit under test.2. After removing an electrical assembly equipped with ES devices, place the assembly on a conductive surface such as aluminum fo
8、il, toprevent electrostatic charge build-up or exposure of the assembly.3. Use only a grounded-tip soldering iron to solder or unsolder ES devices.4. Use only an anti-static solder removal device. Some solder removal devices not classified as anti-static can generate electrical chargessufficient to
9、damage ES devices.5. Do not use freon-propelled chemicals. These can generate electrical change sufficient to damage ES devices.6. Do not remove a replacement ES device from its protective package until immediately before you are ready to install it. (Most replacementES devices are packaged with lea
10、ds electrically shorted together by conductive foam, aluminum foil or comparable conductive material.)7. Immediately before removing the protective material from the leads of a replacement ES device, touch the protective material to thechassis or circuit assembly into which the device will be instal
11、led.Be sure no power is applied to the chassis or circuit, and observe all other safety precautions.8. Minimize bodily motions when handling unpackaged replacement ES devices. (Otherwise harmless motion such as the brushing togetheror your clothes fabric or the lifting of your foot from a carpeted f

30、 or the rear-panel Main Power Switch is off, this LED is off. Standby: Amber indicates that the AVR is ready to be turned on. On: When the AVR is turned on, this LED turns white. NOTE: If the PROTECT message ever appears, turn off theAVR and unplug it. Check all speaker wires for a possible short.If
31、 none is found, bring the unit to an authorized Harman Kardonservice center for inspection and repair before using it again.Standby/On Switch: This electrical switch turns thereceiver on, or places it in Standby mode for quick turn-on.Tuning Mode: This button toggles between manual (one frequency st
32、ep at a time) and automatic (seeks frequencies withacceptable signal strength) tuning mode. It also toggles betweenstereo and mono modes when an FM station is tuned.Channel Level Control: Press this button to adjust theoutput level for any amplifier channel. It may be necessary to raiseor lower the
33、level of a specific channel to compensate for theplacement of the relevant speaker in the room in relation to the listening position; e.g., the center channel speaker is further awayfrom the listening position than the front left and right speakers, so that the dialogue is too soft to hear clearly.T
34、o adjust the level of a channel, press this button once. If thedesired channel is not displayed on screen and in the front-panelMessage Display, use the Tuning Buttons to scroll to it. When thedesired channel appears, use the 7/3Navigation Buttons tochange the level.It is recommended that you avoid
35、changing the channel levels afteryou have run the EzSet/EQ setup procedure described in the InitialSetup section, which properly adjusts all channel levels. See theAdvanced Functions section for more information on manual speakersetup, including level adjustment.Remote IR Sensor:This sensor receives
36、 infrared (IR) commands from the remote control. It is important to ensure that itis not blocked. If covering the sensor is unavoidable, use an optionalHarman Kardon HE 1000, or other infrared receiver, connecting it tothe Remote IR Input on the AVR 1600s rear panel. Digital Input: To change the aud
37、io input for the currentsource to one of the six digital audio inputs or the analog input forthe source, press this button and use the 7/3Navigation Buttonsto change the input. Although any digital audio input may beassigned to any source, the analog audio inputs are all permanentlydedicated to the
38、source with which they are labeled.7/3Navigation: These buttons are used to navigate theAVRs menus.Set: Press this button to select the currently highlighted item.Message Display:Various messages appear in this two-linedisplay in response to commands and changes in the incoming signal.In normal oper
39、ation, the current source name appears on the upperline, while the surround mode is displayed on the lower line. Whenthe on-screen display menu system (OSD) is in use, the currentmenu settings appear.Tuning: Press these buttons to tune a radio station.Surround Mode:Press this button to select a surr
40、oundsound (e.g., multichannel) mode. Each press changes the surroundmode category: AUTO SELECT, VIRTUAL, STEREO, MOVIE, MUSIC,VIDEO GAME. To change the specific mode within the category, usethe Surround Select Buttons. See the Advanced Functions sectionfor more information on surround modes. Surroun
41、d Select: After you have selected the desired surround mode category, press these buttons to select a specificmode within the category, such as to change from Dolby Pro LogicIIx Movie mode to Logic 7 Movie mode. Surround mode availabilitydepends on the nature of the source input signal, i.e., digita
42、l versusanalog, and the number of channels encoded within the signal.Source Selectors: Press these buttons to select a sourcedevice, which is a component where a playback signal originates,e.g., DVD.Headphone Jack/EzSet/EQ MicrophoneInput: Plug a 1/4” headphone plug into this jack for private listen
43、ing.This jack is also used to connect the supplied microphone for theEzSet/EQ procedure described in the Initial Setup section. Digital Audio Inputs (Optical3 and Coaxial3):Connect a source component that will only be used temporarily,such as a digital camera or game console, to these jacks. Use onl
44、yone type of audio. The audio input may be assigned to any videosource.USB Port: This port may be used in case a software upgradefor the receiver is offered in the future. Do not connect a storagedevice, peripheral product or a PC here, unless instructed to do so as part of an upgrade procedure.Vide
