Notes for transport and storage1) The pick-up should always be left in its conductive bag until immediately prior to use.2) The pick-up should never be subjected to external pressure or

8、 impact.2. Repair notes1) The pick-up incorporates a strong magnet, and so should never be brought close to magnetic materials.2) The pick-up should always be handled correctly and carefully, taking care to avoid external pressure andimpact. If it is subjected to strong pressure or impact, the resul

9、t may be an operational malfunctionand/or damage to the printed-circuit board.3) Each and every pick-up is already individually adjusted to a high degree of precision, and for that reasonthe adjustment point and installation screws should absolutely never be touched.4) Laser beams may damage the eye

10、s!Absolutely never permit laser beams to enter the eyes!Also NEVER switch ON the power to the laser output part (lens, etc.) of the pick-up if it is damaged.5) Cleaning the lens surfaceIf there is dust on the lens surface, the dust should be cleaned away by using an air bush (such as usedfor camera

11、lens). The lens is held by a delicate spring. When cleaning the lens surface, therefore, a cot-ton swab should be used, taking care not to distort this.6) Never attempt to disassemble the pick-up.Spring by excess pressure. If the lens is extremely dirty, apply isopropyl alcohol to the cotton swab. (

12、Donot use any other liquid cleaners, because they will damage the lens.) Take care not to use too much ofthis alcohol on the swab, and do not allow the alcohol to get inside the pick-up.Storage in conductive bagNEVER look directly at the laser beam, and dont let contactfingers or other exposed skin.

Preparations1) Compact disc players incorporate a great many ICs as well as the pick-up (laser diode). These compo-nents are sen

14、sitive to, and easily affected by, static electricity. If such static electricity is high voltage,components can be damaged, and for that reason components should be handled with care.2) The pick-up is composed of many optical components and other high-precision components. Care mustbe taken, theref

15、ore, to avoid repair or storage where the temperature of humidity is high, where strongmagnetism is present, or where there is excessive dust.2. Notes for repair1) Before replacing a component part, first disconnect the power supply lead wire from the unit2) All equipment, measuring instruments and

16、tools must be grounded.3) The workbench should be covered with a conductive sheet and grounded.When removing the laser pick-up from its conductive bag, do not place the pick-up on the bag. (This isbecause there is the possibility of damage by static electricity.)4) To prevent AC leakage, the metal p

17、art of the soldering iron should be grounded.5) Workers should be grounded by an armband (1M)6) Care should be taken not to permit the laser pick-up to come in contact with clothing, in order to preventstatic electricity changes in the clothing to escape from the armband.7) The laser beam from the p

19、Such components com-monly are called Electrostatically Sensitive Devices (ESD). Examples of typical ESD devices are integrated cir-cuits and some field-effect transistors and semiconductor chip components. The following techniques shouldbe used to help reduce the incidence of component damage caused

20、 by static electricity.1. Immediately before handling any semiconductor component or semiconductor-equipped assembly, drain offany electrostatic charge on your body by touching a known earth ground. Alternatively, obtain and wear acommercially available discharging wrist strap device, which should b

21、e removed for potential shock reasonsprior to applying power to the unit under test.2. After removing an electrical assembly equipped with ESD devices, place the assembly on a conductive sur-face such as aluminum foil, to prevent electrostatic charge buildup or exposure of the assembly.3. Use only a

22、 grounded-tip soldering iron to solder or unsolder ESD devices.4. Use only an anti-static solder removal device. Some solder removal devices not classified as anti-staticcan generate electrical charges sufficient to damage ESD devices.5. Do not use freon-propelled chemicals. These can generate elect

23、rical charges sufficient to damage ESDdevices.6. Do not remove a replacement ESD device from its protective package until immediately before you areready to install it. (Most replacement ESD devices are packaged with leads electrically shorted together byconductive foam, aluminum foil or comparable

24、conductive materials).7. Immediately before removing the protective material from the leads of a replacement ESD device, touch theprotective material to the chassis or circuit assembly into which the device will by installed.CAUTION : BE SURE NO POWER IS APPLIED TO THE CHASSIS OR CIRCUIT, AND OBSERV

25、E ALLOTHER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.8. Minimize bodily motions when handing unpackaged replacement ESD devices. 40、 consult yourauthorized Harman Kardon dealer.No power. Is the power cord firmly plugged into thepower outlet? One of the safety mechanisms may be operat-ing. In this event, unplug the player from thepower outlet briefly and then plug it in again.No picture. Check that the system is connected correct

41、lyand securely. The video cable may be damaged. Replace itwith a new one. Make sure the system is connected to a videoinput on the TV (see page 14). Make sure the TV is turned on. Make sure the correct video input on the TV isselected for viewing with this system.Noise (interference) appears in thep

42、icture. Clean the disc. If video from this system has to go throughyour VCR to get to your TV, the copy-protectionapplied to some DVD programs could affectpicture quality. If you still experience problemsafter checking your connections, please try con-necting your DVD system directly to your TVsS-Vi

43、deo input, if your TV is equipped with thisinput (see page 14).The aspect ratio of the screen is wrong(picture vertically expanded) when youplay a wide picture even though you set“TV DISPLAY” in the SETUP menu to16:9. If you connect the system with the SCARTcable, connect directly to the TV. Otherwi

44、se theautoswitch function of the aspect ratio for theTV may not work. If the TV is not connected with a SCART cableto the HS, or if the autoswitch function doesnot work you should turn the TV to 16:9 (ifpossible with your TV). Depending on the TV, you may not be able tochange the aspect ratio. In th

45、at case (TV notadjustable to 16:9) do not select 16:9 in theTV Display.Then, no change of the aspect ratiois needed.There is no sound or volume is very low. Check that the speakers and components areconnected correctly and securely. Make sure that you have selected the correctsource on the system. P

46、ress MUTE on the remote control, if thewords MUTE ON are blinking on the frontpanel display. The protective circuitry has been activatedbecause of a short circuit.Turn off the system,eliminate the short circuit problem and turn onthe power again. The audio interconnect is damaged. Replace itwith a n

47、ew one. The system is in pause mode or in slow-motionplay mode, or fast forward or fast reverse.Press Nto return to normal play mode. Check the speaker settings (see page 19).The left and right channels are unbalancedor reversed. Check that the speakers and components areconnected correctly and secu

48、rely.Severe hum or noise is heard. Check that the speakers and components areconnected securely. Check that the connecting cords are away froma transformer or motor and at least 3 metersaway from fluorescent light. Move your TV away from the audio compo-nents. The plugs and jacks are dirty.Wipe them

49、 with acloth slightly moistened with alcohol. Clean the disc.The surround effect is difficult to hearwhen you are playing a Dolby Digitalsound track. Check to see if the Dolby Digital mode isturned on properly, otherwise unload and loadthe disc again. Check the speaker connections. Depending on the

50、DVD disc, the output signalmay at times be mono or stereo even if thesoundtrack is recorded in Dolby Digital format.The sound comes from the center speakeronly. Depending on the disc, sound may sometimescome from the center speaker only.This alsoapplies to mono recordings (from disc or anyanalog sou
