To ensure that there will be no unwanted signalt

25、ransients that can damage equipment or speakers, it isalways best to unplug all equipment from AC power outletsbefore making any connection . Modern electronic productsoften have a “standby” mode that may be activated eventhough the product may appear to be turned off.Power Control ConnectionsThe Ha

26、rman Kardon PA5800/2.1 amplifier features a built-inremote turn-on system that will automatically turn on theamplifier when another devices in the system are switchedon. To activate this system, this amplifier must be used inconjunction with a Harman Kardon PT2500, othercompatible Harman Kardon prod

27、ucts or other approveddevices.NOTE: Before making any connections to remote triggeroutlets, it is critical that both the PA5800/2.1 and thetriggering device be turned off. For additional safety, it isbest that these connections be made while both productsare unplugged from AC power sources.Remote Tu

28、rn-On Compatible Harman KardonProducts - Including the PT2500Connect one end of the accessory cable supplied with thePT2500 to the Remote Amp Trigger injack on the rear ofthe PA5800/2.1. Connect the other end to the jack on thePT2500 that carries the same identification.Remote Turn-On Using External

29、 AC-to-DCConverterIf the PA5800/2.1 is not used with a compatible HarmanKardon product, it is still compatible to activate the unit forautomatic turn-on.To control the amplifier in this manner you will need a smallUL/CSA approved class 2 AC-to-DC power convertercapable of delivering a 6 to 12-volt D

30、C signal.The DCvoltage should terminate in a standard 3.5 mm monominiplug, with the tip of the plug “positive” (+). This type ofconverter may be obtained as a “Power Adapter” from manyelectronic retailers. Consult your dealer for furtherinformation.Plug the AC adapter into a switched outlet that wil

31、l beactivated when you wish to have the amplifier turn on. Thismay be the switched outlet at the rear of an AV receiver orother audio equipment, an AC outlet that is part of a currentsensing control unit activated by a preamp or surroundprocessor or a switched AC wall outlet.8Connect the 3.5mm minip

32、lug from the power converter tothe Remote Amp Trigger injack on the rear of thePA5800/2.1.Audio System ConnectionsAs a general rule, avoid running any input signal or speakerwire connections next to or parallel with AC power cords.This may cause undesired hum or other interference thatwill greatly d

33、egrade signal performance.When making connections with RCA-type plugs oninterconnect cables, make certain to gently but firmly insertthe plugs into the jacks on the rear of the PA5800/2.1.Loose connections can cause intermittent sound and maydamage your speakers.Connect the outputs of the PT2500 or

34、your surroundprocessor to the audio inputs of the PA5800/2.1.Tosimplify installation, it is best to follow the markings on therear panel by connecting the Front Right output of thePT2500 to the Front Right input on the PA5800/2.1,following the same pattern for each channel.Important Note: The PA5800

35、/2.1 is not designed foruse in Bridged configuration. Do not connect the sameinput or speaker to more than one channel.To ensure that the high-quality signals produced by thePA5800/2.1 are carried to your speakers without loss ofclarity or resolution, we recommend that you usehigh-quality speaker ca

36、ble.Many brands of cable areavailable and the choice of cable may be influenced by thedistance between your speakers and you amplifier, the typeof speakers you use, personal preferences and otherfactors.Your dealer or installer is a valuable resource toconsult in selecting a proper cable for connect

37、ions betweenyour amplifier and speakers.Regardless of the brand or type of cable selected, werecommend that you use a cable construction of fine, multistrand copper with a gauge of 14 or smaller. Whenspecifying cable, remember that the lower the number, thethicker the cable.Cable with a gauge or 16

38、may be used for short runs of lessthan ten feet. We do not recommend the use of cables withan AWG equivalent of 18 or higher due to the power lossand degradation in performance that will occur.Cables that run inside walls should have the appropriatemarkings to indicate listing with UL (“CL-2/CL-3”),

39、 CSA(“FT-4”) or appropriate safety agency standards that mayrequire in your area. Questions about running cables insidewalls should be referred to you installer or a licensedelectrical contractor who is familiar with the NEC and/or theapplicable building or electrical code in your area.Connections t

40、o SpeakersThe final step of the installation process is to connect theamplifier to your speaker using high-quality cable. A pair ofbinding posts is provided for each channels output. Theseposts will accept bare wire or banana-type plugs.Note that one conductor of the speaker cable will have nomarkin

41、gs or an indication of “-” for negative polarity, and theother will have a read line, brand-names markings, acolored thread or some other positive-polarity indication.The wire with the positive indication should be connected tothe red terminals on both the PA5800/2.1 and yourspeakers. The negative w

42、ire should be connected to theblack terminal on the PA5800/2.1 and the speakers.If bare wire is used for connections, strip approximately ”(20mm) of insulation from the end of each wire and carefullytwist the strands of each conductor together. Be careful notto cut the individual strands or twist th

43、em off; for optimalperformance, all strands must be used.Next loosen the knobs of the speaker output terminals farenough so that the cap moves back on its threads past theU-shaped groove at the back end of the terminal. Makingcertain that you observe polarity by connecting the negative(-) wire to th

44、e black terminal and the positive(+) wire to thered terminal, pass the exposed wire through from the top ofthe slot until the wire is visible from the bottom end. Holdingthe wire in place, twist the cap back so that the connection issecured. Do not overtighten or use tools, as this maydamage the pla

45、stic terminal cap or break the delicate wirestrands and decrease system performace.Important Note: When making speaker wireconnections, be cartain that none of the strands from onelead touch any other lead. This will cause a short circuit andmay damage your amplifier or speakers. Damage fromshort ci

46、rcuits caused in this manner is not covered by theproduct warranty.Connections may also be made using standard 4mm 0Dbanana plugs. Before using a banana-type jack, makecertain that the plastic screw caps on the PA5800/2.1 arefirmly tightened by turning them clockwise until they aresnug against the c

47、hassis. This will ensure that the maximumsurface area of the plug is in contact with the jack. Once thewire has been attached to the banana plug following theplug manufactures instructions, simply insert the bananaplug into the hole provided on the rear of the colored screwcaps on the terminal posts

48、. Be certain to observe properpolarity.Finally, run the cables to the speaker locations. It is highlyrecommended that the length of cable connecting any pairof speakers be identical. For example, make certain that thecable length connecting left and right front or left and rightrear (surround) speak

Do not coil any excess cable, as this may become aninductor that creates

50、frequency response variations in yoursystem.Connect the wire to the speaker, again being certain toobserve proper polarity. Remember to connect the negativeor black wire to the matching terminal on the speaker.Similarly, the positive or red wire should be connected to thelike terminal on the speaker
