Thelowdistortionwhichresultsfromthe para-coupleddesig

3、ngivesgreaterdefinitionofmusical detail-analogoustothewayinwhichcomplexcoupling oflenselementscanprovidegreaterresolutionofphoto- graphicdetail. ThebasicaiminthedesignofDYNACOtransformers wastoprovidethefinestpossibleperformanceunder actualaudiooperatingconditionsaswellasunder steadystatelaboratoryt

4、estconditions.Thisgoalwas achievedbybuildingintothetransformersalargemar- ginofperformancecapabilities,overthatnormally expectedinanoutputtransformer.Oneresultafthis policyisthatthedesignisnotcriticalontubebalance, andcircuitscanbesimplifiedandmaintenancemini- mizedbyomissionofcomponentswhichoreused

5、solely forthepurposeofbalancingcurrentsintheoutput transformer. Recognitionoftheimportantfactthatoutputtransform ersareintendedtooperatewithloudspeakerloads ratherthanresistiveloadsaloneledtodesignfeatures whichpreservethequalityofperformanceevenwhen theloadimpedanceshifts such ashappensattheends of

6、theaudiospectrumwithloudspeakerloads.Thesub stantialreserveofpowerhandlingcapabilitywhichis builtintoeveryDYNACOSuper-Fidelityoutputtrans- formerpermitsfullundislorledpowertransmissionat frequencyextremes.Mostbettergradetransformerscan deliverareasonableamountofpowerinthemiddleof theaudioband.Unfort

7、unatelyhowever,in most unitsfhe distortionathighlevelsincreasesharplyattheendsof theband.ThisisnottrueforDYNACOtransformerssince thepara-coupledarrangementreducesmiddleandhigh frequencydistortion,whilea massivecoreofthingauge grainorientedsteelprovidesdistortionless transmission ofhighlevel,lowfrequ

8、encysignalcomponents. Modernhighfidelityamplifiercircuitsincorporatesub stantialproportionsofnegativefeedback,primarilyto reducedistortiontoextremelylowlevels.However,fhere isapenaltywhichisincurredintheuseoflargeamounts offeedback-problemsofinstabilityareintroduced,and alargeportoftheseproblemsared

9、ueto thedetrimen- to Iphasecharacteristicsoftheoutputtransformerused. Amplifierswhichdonothavesufficientmarginofstabil. ityunderfeedbackconditionstendtogelbloopyand muddyatlowfrequenciesandharshandstridentathigh frequencies.Theremedyrequirescloseconlrolofthe amplifierandIransformerphasecharacteristi

10、csevenat frequenciesforremovedfromIheaudioband. Advancedpulsetechniqueshavebeenincorporatedinlo thedesignandproductionofDYNACOSuper-Fidelity Iransformers tomakethephasecharacteristicssuitable foramplifierswithhighproportionsoffeedback.The gaininmarginofstabilitywhichaccruesfromthisdesign techniquema

11、kesanaudibleimprovementinlistening quality.The best testforinherentstabilityunderfeed- backconditionsistheuseofthesquarewavetest-both onIhetransformeraloneandonthecompleteampl:fier withloudspeakerload.ThesuperiorityofDYNACO transformersisreadilyconfirmedinthissquarewave testbynotingthestraightsidesa

12、ndflattopofthe waveformandtheabsenceofripplesandspikes, even athighfrequencies. DYNACOSuper-Fidelitytransformersarebuilttogive consistent,longlastingperformance.Suchfeoturesas 3000voltinsulation,vacuumimpregnation,hightemper- aturepottingcompound,andrigorousproductiontesting protecttheperformanceabt

13、ainedbyuniquedesignand precisionwinding.Thedesign,thematerials,andthe fabricationarethefinestavailable;andtheyprovide thefinestperformance. CIRCUITS FORDYNACOTRANSFORMERS ThehighperformancecapabilitiesofDYNACOSuper- Fidelitytransformerswillimproveanycircuitinwhich thesetransformersareused. As agener

14、alruletheycan beinsertedinanyhighqualitycircuitconfigurationin eludingWilliamson,ultralinear,multi-Ioop,or anyotherwithgratifyingimprovementinamplifier stabilityanddistortioncharacteristics.However,the benefitsavailablefromagiventransformerarebounded bythecircuitinwhichitisused.Therefore,werecom- me

15、ndsomespecificcircuitarrangementswhichhave beencarefullydesignedandtestedtoinsuremaximum usersatisfaction. The circuitsshownaresuggestedforthosewhoroll Iheirown,eitherincompleteamplifierconstructionor inmodernizationandconversionofolderequipmentor moderate-fidelitycommercialequipment. TheDYNACOcircu

16、it,as used intheDYNAKITMarkill, wasdesignedtomatchtheoutstandingcharacteristics oftheA431transformer.Thesimplicity,stability,and qualityofthiscircuitareunequalledbyanyregardless ofcomplexityorcost. ThethousandsofpeoplewhohaveWilliamsontype amplifiers,inanyofthepopularversions,connow modernizethemtoi

17、mprovetheamplifierstabilitychar- acteristicsandtoincreasetheirpoweroutputtoover 50 wattsasshowninfigu,e2. Thismodernizationandcon version, usingtheDYNACOA-431transformer,makes animprovementinqualitywhichisaudibleeventothe untrainedearsincethereisgreatercleanlinessand smoothnessofthesound. Figure3ill

19、ialimprovementinIransient response aswellasdrasticallyloweringthedistorlion. Mostcommercialamplifierscanbegreallyimproved merelybydirectsubstitutionoftheA-410foramplifiers ofthe6V6IypeortheA-420foramplifiersofthe5BB1, 6L6,andKT-66typewithoutanyothercircuitchanges_ The120watlA-441Iransformerisdesigne
