2、world of digital communications, there are manynew amateurs entering thehobby lor the purpose ofusingthedigitalmodesthatmakeuseofthe computer and associated software. With the quantum leap comes the need for tasterdata rates. Thisneedin turn drives the requirement for broaderreceiverIF andfaster swi

3、tching (transmit push-to-talk to fullpower output) transceivers.Asa result of these re- quirements.manypacketeers are looking into transceiversthatwiltprovideboth voiceoper- ationandhigh-speedpacketuse. Ifyou arelookingfor atransceivertoaccess thelocalvoicerepealerandonewhichwillhan- dlethelargevari

4、etyofpacketapplications that exist-includingkeyboard-to-keyboard net- works, switches,nodes, OX spotting nets, BBSes, conference clusters-youcan find that happy balance in the AlincoDR-1SOT. With some of the packet applications Ive just mentioned the user canconnectto distant stations in other citie

5、s. states,andcountries using arrecom-oowertransceiver. There isno needforsuper-powertransceivers that run hundredsof watts. Thepowerlevel01the AlincoDR-l50Tallows the user to select the powerneededto make theconnectorcontact ranging from10to50 wattsoutput.This Alinco transceiver wasdesigned with the

Interfacing Your TNC To TheAlincoDR-150T Twelve-hundred baudmicpinconnections for the Alinco DR- 1SOTI/Oaresrownin TableII (alsoseefig.1). Interfacing the DR-1SOTtoa9600baudTNC ISsomewhat different fromth

7、eway in whiCh we connectthe DR-1SOTto a 1200baudTNC. In fig. 2 Ive Illustrated the backpanel of theDR- 150Ttoprovideadetailedlookat thetwojacks. Notice the9600bauddatajackis a 2.5 mil- limeter stereo jack, while the external speak- er jack is a 3.5 millimeter mono J ack, The 3.5 mmjacks are often ca

8、lled a1/8inch jack (or plug), The 3.5 mm plugs are easy to locate at any Radio Shack store. You maysoondiscov- er the 2,5mmstereo plug is a different story. Tocircumvent thisproblemImadeupthe interfacecableusing a 3.5mmstereoplugon theTX/Axconnection. Ipurchaseda 3.5mm to 2.5mmadaptertocompletetheco

9、nnection tothe DR-15OT9600bauddatajack. TransmittingPacket To operate a packet station you should have a current amateur radio license thatallows oper- ating privileges within the spectrumtowhich yourDR-l50Tis tuned.

23、Itthe interfacecablesare properlywired and connected, then you are ready to estab- lish contact with another packet station. It is wise to solicit help of another person who is already operating in thepacketmodes, espe- cially when operating at9600baud. Inthisway you will have someonewhocanlisten fo

24、r your signalanddirectyou to theoperatingfre- quencies thatareset aside for9600and/or 1200baudpacket. Although the DR-15OT isengineeredto make useoflimiting circuits that aredesigned topreventover-rrooutatco(deviatiOn), there aresomeTNeswhichmaydrivethe transmit audio circuitry too hard. An indicatiOn that a problemSUChas this is presentwouldbe noticed when accooectis triedtoa nearby packetstatenwith no results.
