3、r. Ifthe user want to operate this receiveron theQSO basis, set upthereceiver and model TX-599fora combined transmitter-receiver operation. Then,set the BAND switches and main tuningdialonthe receiver for the riominal transmitting frequencyofa desiredpartner stationwiththeRIT switch placed in positi
4、on O.Tunethe receivertothe actual transmitting frequencyofthepartnerstation and proceed totheQSO operation. Ifthe receiving frequency shifts during the QSOoperation, re-tune the receiver to the currentreceiving frequency by turning theRIT controltoandfro, insteadofmanipulating the main tuning dial.O
5、therwise, the transmitting frequencyofthe local station will be shifted. (5)PRESELECTOR (RFAmplifierTuningcontroll The PRESELECTOR switchisthe tuning controlfortheRFamplifier stageofthis receiver. This control should be adjusted until thereceiver provides the maximum sensitivity. (6) SQUELCH (Squelc
6、h Control) TheSQUELCH control serves as the ON- OFFcontrol forboththe squelch and RIT operations.Thatis, turning this control clock- wisefromtheOFFpositionintensitythe squelch control to theIFoutputuntil the audio frequency circuitisdisabled for regenera- tionoftheincoming signal. While, pulling the
7、knobofthiscontrolout ofits normal position turns the RIT switch off. (7)(8)VFOSELECT -SELECTIVITY(Composite VFOand Selectivity Selector Switch) TheVFO SELECT - SELECTIVITY con- trolisa composite switch consistingofa VFO and selectivity selector switches. TheVFOSELECT switch, a 4-position rotaryswitc
8、h forming theupperknobofthe VFO SELECT-SELECTIVITY switch, provides meanstoselect adesiredVFOunderthe combinedtransmitter-receiveroperationof modelsJR-599and TX-599.Normally, this switch should bekeptin the NORM position. 11 TheSELECTIVITY switch, a 5-position rotaryswitch forming the lowerknobofthe
9、 VFO SELECT-SENSITIVITY switch, provides meanstoselect anadequateIFbanddepending onthetypeofemission for the signalunder receptionoftheconditionofradiointer- ference.Inotherwords, this switch should be placedata position for which the speaker deliversthesoundoutputwhichismost easyto hear. 10、GAIN-RFATT(CompositeAFGain- RFAttenuatorSelector Switch) TheAF GAIN -RFATT controlisa composite switch consistingofanAFGAIN control and anRFATT switch. TheAF GAIN control, a control forming theupperknoboftheAFGAIN -RFATT switch,isthevolume control for the speaker output.Turning thiscontrolclockwisei
11、n- creases the volumeofspeakeroutput. TheRFATT switch, a 4-positionrotary switchformingthelowerknobofthe AF GAIN -RFATTswitch, provides means to insert a resistanceattenuatorof60dBat20dB step in theinputcircuitoftheRFamplifier stage.Usingthis switch,therefore,model JR-599may be usedtomake measurento
12、fa field intensity. (11)PHONES (Phone Jack) ThePHONESjackisprovided for connec- tionofa headphoneplug. (12)FUNCTION (Function Selector Switch) TheFUNCTION switch, a 6-positionrotary switch, provides meanstoplace model JR-599 undera desired functional condition such as a stand-byoperation,monitor,sJo
13、w and fast responses and calibration, as obtained by turn- ing the switch in the STABY, MONI, SLOW, FAST, 100 kHz and25kHz positions respec- tively. (13)MODE (Receiver Mode Selector Switch) TheMODEswitch,a 6-positionrotary switch, provides means to select an adequate modeofthe receiver operation dep
14、ending on thetypeofemissionofthe signaltobe received. t (a)CW(ContinuousWave) SwitchpositionCWisprovidedto operatethereceiveronanincomingcon- tinuouswave forreceptionoftheMorse telegraphcodes. (b)LSB(LowerSideBand) SwitchpositionLSBisprovidedto operatethereceiveronanincomingLSB signal forreceptionof
15、the3.5and7.5 MHz bands.Thisisbecauseitisaninternational customtousetheLSBofSSB signal for transmissionandreceptionofthe3.5and7 MHz bands. (c) USB(UpperSideband) SwitchpositionUSBisprovidedto operatethereceiveronanincomingUSB signal forreceptionofthebandsabovethe 14 MHzband.Thisisbecause it is a gene
16、ral ruletousetheUSBofSSB signalfortrans- mission andreceptionofthebandsabove the 14 MHzband. Usersshouldbe carefulenoughnotto select awrongsidebandsignal forreception ofa SSBband.Otherwise,thereceiver fails todamodulatetheincomingsignalatall. (d)AM(AmplitudeModulation) SwitchpositionAMisprovidedto o

Ifthereceiverisoperatedonan incom- ingSSBsignalwiththeMODEswitch placedinthisAMpositionbymistake,the speakermerenumblesoutitssoundout- pu1.Whenoperatingthereceiverwiththe incomingsignalsbelongingtotheban

(15)Sub-dial Scale Thesub-dial scaleisthedisc scalemounted belowarectangularsmallwindowattheupper centersectionoffrontpanel. Thescale bearstheblueandorange gradua- tionswhic
21、h,startingwiththezeroblue gradua- tion,arecalibratedalternatelyaroundthe circumfereneceofthediscforafrequency rangefrom0to600MHzatintervalsof25 kHz. This scale, beingmountedontheshaftof themaintuningdial,shiftsitspositionbyone graduationforeveryonecompleteturnofthe tuningdial,orafrequencybandcoverin
22、g 25 kHz. (16)Main Dial Scale Themain dial scaleisthedisc scaletightly keptinpositionagainstthebottomsideofthe maintuningdialwithspringpressure. Thescale bearstheblackandred gradua- tions,which,startingwiththezeroblack graduations,arecalibratedaroundtheentire circumferenceofthedisc forfrequencyrange
23、s from0to25kHzand25to50kHz,the formerbeingmarkedwithblack figuresandthe latterred figures.Hence,itprovidesmeansfor indicatingthereceivingfrequencytowhichthe receivertunedthroughtheuseofthemain tuningdial. Becauseofitsconstructionalcharacteristic, thisscalemaybecalibratedquiteeasily by 12 shifting it
24、s zero graduationtoapointfor which thereceiver zero beats withthe calibration signal while depressingandturningitwiththe blackknobincorporatedtothe main tuning dial below the dial knob. (17)MainTuningDial Themain tuning dialistheknobwiththe main-dialandsub-dial scales interlockedwith its shaft. This
25、dialprovidesmeanstotunethe receivercircuitwith adesiredbandsignal within abandwidthof600kHz, for whichit shifts the main-dialandsub-dial scale gradua- tionsby25 kHz foreveryonecompleteturnof its knob. Notethatthis dial isstoppedatapoint whenrotatedoutside the 0to600kHzrange ofthesub-dial scale. Dono

A verticalorinverted- Ltypeantennamaybe errectedeasily as a simpleantennawhichmeetsthe aboverequirement.Otherwise,itisrecommen- dabletouse atransmittingantennadesigned foran amatuerradiostationcommonlyas a receiving antennathroughprovisionofaselectorswitchand this will enabl
41、ethereceivertoreceive a high- qualitysignal. UseofadipoleorVagiantennaisalso recommendablesincesuchantennaisemployed widelyamongamatuerradiostations. 43、andofusers. 6.Receiving Procedure FirstsetupthemodelJR-599foroperationby connectingthepowerline,theantennaandthe speakertotheirassociatedterminals.Then,setthe frontpanelcontrolstothepositionsasshown below.Also,refertoparagraph givenunderthe titlesFrontPanelControlsandRearPanel Controls. Whenthemodel
44、JR-599istobeoperatedin combinationwithatransmitter,never failto connectbetweenthereceiverandtransmitterby insertingtheconnectingcordwith16-pin con- nectorsupplied withthereceiver intheirREMOTE terminals. When allabove-mentionedsteps arecompleted, turnthe POWER switchtoON.Thislights all pilot lamps,
45、which illuminate the dial surfacesandmeter darkenedhighertountiltheyare loomed clearly onthefrontpanel, Here, carryoutthefollowing steps: (I)Slowlyturnthemaintuningdialuntil the receiver istunedtothe desired signal. (2)AdjustthePRESELECTORcontroluntil the receiver providesthemaximumgain. (3)SettheAF

(4) PlacetheFUNCTIONswitchineitherSLOW orFASTpositiondependingonthelevel fluctuationofthesignalunderreception. 5)Normally keeptheRFATTswitchinthe 0 dB position.Use switch positions 2,40and 60dBwhenthereceiver is usedt
