27、ally isnotevidentinthereceiver circuitry immedi- atelyfollowingthe capacitor. c.Whenthecapacitoris used as atrimmercapacitor, andisshorted,ithasnotrimmereffectontunedcir- cuits.Inthis instanceandwhenthecapacitoris used toprovidefortheparallelresonanceofadjustablecore tunedcircuits,thesignalis usuall
28、ynolongerevident inthesubsequentreceiver circuitry. d.Whenthecapacitorisshuntedby a resistor as is thecaseincertainofther-ftuners,andit is suspected thatthecapacitorisshorted,theshuntedresistor, meas- uredforresistance asoutlinedinparagraph3-7,will determinewhetherthecapacitorisshorted. 3-11.LEAKYCA
29、PACITOR.Whenacapacitorissus- pectedofbeingleaky,avoidhavingtounsolderoneof thecapacitorterminalsfromthereceiver byutilizing 6 every possible receiverswitchand/ortubemeansto isolatethecapacitorterminal.Todeterminewhethera capacitorisleakydothefollowing: a.Turnthereceiver off. b.Adjustthevolt-ohmmeter
30、toitshighestohmmeter rangeandconnectitacrossthecapacitor.Ifthecapacitor isgoodtheohmmeterpointerwillflickoverslightly andgraduallydropbacktoinfinity. c.Nowreversethetestprods.Notethatiftheohm- meterdeflection is twicethatobtainedinstepb,withthe pointerthenreturningtothepositionindicatinginfinite res
31、istance,thecapacitorisgood.Ifthepointerdoesnot gobacktoinfinite resistanceindication,thecapacitoris leakyandshouldbe replaced.Thistest isnotreliablefor capacitorswhosecapacitance value is lessthan0.05 uf. Note Whenthecapacitorisanelectrolytic type,one readingwillshowlowresistanceandtheother muchhigh
32、er.Ifthehigherresistance isnot over100,000ohmsandcomparabletothatofa sparecapacitor,theelectrolyticcapacitormust be replaced. Makesuretoturnthereceiveronatleast 15 minutesbeforemakingthetest sothatany electrolyticcapacitordielectric filmdeteriora- tionmay berepairedbysubjectingthecapacitor toitsdocw
