16、putis increased from 2to 200,000 microvolts. 4 ) GENERAL PURPOSECOMMUNICATIONSRECEIVER I GENERAL DESCRIPTION TheSP-600-Xisa20tubeRadio Communications Receiverwithselfcontainedpowersupply.The suffix inthemodelnumberdenotesthatthisreceiver is made usingcomponentshavingcharacteristicswhich aretheequiva
17、lentofmilitarycomponentspecifications insofaras is practicable. Thereceiver is suppliedineithera well ventilated steel, table model cabinet finished in dark greyto complementthelightergreyfrontpanelorformeunt- inginastandard19inchrelay rack. Theselfcontainedpowersupply is designedfo operationfroma s
18、ingle phase, 50to60 cycle alternat- ingcurrentpowersource.Thepowertransformer primaryisprovidedwithtaps covering a line voltage rangefrom90to270volts.Thepowerconsumption is 130 watts. Thereceiver is suitableforeitherheadphoneor loudspeaker receptionofAMradio telephone,CW telegraph,AMMCWtelegraphsign
19、alsandfor diversity applications. Thestandardmodel provides continuous coverage overa frequencyrangefrom 0.54to54.0 megacycles in six bands.Thelarge easily operatedbandchange control knob,onthefrontpanel, selectsthedesired frequencybandandabandindicatorvisiblethrough a smallfrontpanelwindowindicates
20、thefrequency bandin use.Thiscontrol also alignsthedial frequency indicatorwiththeproperdial scale. Inadditiontothefrequencyscales,themain dial hasanarbitraryscalewhichinconjunctionwiththe vernierdial providescontinuousexpandedscalesover each frequencybandforextremely accurate logging andresetability

Thesingletuningcontrolis largeandofspecial designtopermitmaximumtraversespeed as well as exceptionaloperatingease.Itcontrolsboththemain andvernierdials.Ananti-backlash geartrainprovides extremely close calibration accuracyandcompletely accurate resetability. Atuninglock provides positive locking a
22、ctionwithoutaffectingthefrequency setting. Thetuningratiofromthetuningcontroltothe main dial is 50to1andtheratiofromthevernier dial tothemain dial is 6to1. Twostagesofradiofrequencyamplification are provided on all bands.Single conversion is usedfor signal frequenciesupto7.4 mcanddouble conversion,
23、employing a crystal controlled oscillator,forsignal frequencies above 7.4 me.FourstagesofIFamplifica- tion,detectorandAVCrectifier, noise limiterand meterrectifier,beatfrequencyoscillatorandbuffer 5 amplifier,IFoutput,AFamplifierandoutputpower stage are provided. Thefrequencycontrolunitprovidesforfi
24、xed channelcrystal controlled operationonanysix fre- quencieswithintherange from .75to54 mc.Front panel controlspermittheselectionofthenormalhigh stability continuously variabletuningoreitherofthe six selected fixed frequency signals.Forcrystal con- trolled fixed channeloperationitisonlynecessary to
25、 setthedial tothesignal frequency, switchtothe crystal frequency desiredandtunewiththedelta frequency control.Thesecrystals arenotsupplied withthereceiver,butmay be purchasedonspecial orderfromHAMMARLUNDMFG.CO.specifying thesignal frequencyforwhicheach istofunction. Thenoise limiter circuit effectiv
26、ely limitstheinter- ference from ignition systemsorothersourcesofpulse typenoise.Thelimiter switch permits optional use ofthelimiter. Theantennainputcircuit is designedforusewith a balanced line.Theinputimpedanceisnominally 95 ohms.Thereceiver may alsobeoperatedwitha conventional single wire antenna

Theaudiooutputcircuit is designedfora 600ohm loadorlineandis providedwithafourterminal split windingforbalanced load operation.Maximumpower outputis approximately 2.0 watts.Theheadphone circuitwhenreferredtoan 8000ohmload provides signalsattenuatedapproximately15dbbelowthe600 ohmpoweroutput. DetectorandAVC-TheV-14tubeisused as a high
40、levelDetectorandAveRectifier.TheAVC circuitisprovidedwithseparatetimeconstants forCWandMCWoperation.AveandDiode outputterminals provideforconnections in diversity applications. Beat Frequency Oscillator -Thebeatfrequency oscillator employs ahighcapacity Colpitts circuit whichgives ahighorderoffreque
41、ncy stabilityand minimizes oscillator harmonics.Thebeatfrequency Oscillatorvon,is coupled intothedetectorcircuit throughBuffer Amplifier V-12,whicheliminates oscil- lator lock-inandpermits variationofthebeatoscillator injectionbymeansofa control locatedontherearof thechassis.AfrontPanelcontrolvaries

A separate control switch 5-6, permits optional useofthelimiteronany modeofoperationwhenpulsetypeinterference is pres
43、ent. AudioFrequency Amplifier -A resistance coupled amplifier triode V-16-B, amplifiestheaudio frequency signal fromthedetector. AudioOutput-TheaudiooutputtubeV-17, is transformercoupledthrougha split, balancedwinding todeliver 2.0watts undistortedoutputtoa 600ohm load.Thesplit balanced winding perm
44、its balancing ofthedirectcurrentintheoutputcircuit, as usedfor teletypeorsimilar service. A separate secondary wind- ing provides attenuated audio signaloutputforhead- phoneoperation.Thiswinding will deliver anoutput of15milliwatts into an 8000ohmresistive loadwhen the600ohmpowersecondary is deliver
