17、isandlightgrey frontpanelassemblytowhicharemountedatopcover andabottomplate.Itis a 20-tuberadiocommuni- cations receiverwithsixfrequencybandsforthecon- tinuouslyvariable,selectivereceptionofanysignal withinthefrequencyrangeof0.54to54.0 mc.Ithas addedprovisionforthefixed-frequency crystal-con- trolle

18、dreceptionofanysignalwithinthefrequency rangeoftwoto30.0 mc. 1-3.Thereceiver isofthesuperheterodynetype.On thethreelowerfrequencybands(0.54to7.4 mc)the signaltunedinisheterodyneconvertedto455 kc.On thethreehigherfrequencybands(7.4to54.0mc)the signaltunedinisdoubleheterodyneconvertedto 455 kc,theinit

19、ialconversionfrequencyusedbeing 3,955 kc. 1-4.Thereceiver self-contained stabilizedpowersup- plyisdesignedtooperatefromasinglephase50-to 60-cycle, a-c source.Thepo.wertransformerprimary isprovidedwithtapscoveringalinevoltagerange from90to270 volts.Thereceiver isprotectedagainst overloadbyfusingthepo

20、wertransformerprimaryand secondaryplatewindings.Theprimaryandsecondary fuses usedarecontainedrespectivelyinthe1.6A SLOand3/8AFUSEholders(1and2, figure 1-3)ontherearapronofthereceiver. Aduplicate ofeachofthese fuses,comprisingthereceiverspare fusecomplementislocatedunderthepolystyrene SPAREFUSES cove

21、r (3),retainedbythecaptive screw (4).ThereceiverACPOWERconnector(5) providesforplugconnectingthea-clinesourceto thereceiver. Topreventdamage,maintainthefuse complement. 1-5.PURPOSEAND LIMITATIONS. 1-6.Thereceiverisdesignedforuseinfixedand/or mobileoperationssuch asareencounteredatenclosed base stati

22、ons,aboardship,orwhenairborne,even whensuch activities are subjectedtowiderangesin temperatureandhumidity.Thereceiver isadequately treatedwithfungicidalvarnishtoconditionitfor tropicaluse.Itsdesignandshieldingreduceits radia- tioncharacteristicstoa possibleminimum,thereby complyingwithshipboardregul

23、ationsandenabling thereceivertobeoperatedincloseproximitytoall otherstatione,quipment such as isencounteredin multi-receiver installations.Itissuitedtotwo-way operationalactivitiesandmaybedesensitizedinthe presenceofastronglocalcarrier,throughuseofthe SENDREGswitch(1, figure1-2)initsSEND position.Th

24、ereceiver issuitedespe;iallyforusein frequency-shiftspace diversityreceivingsystems.When properlyinterconnected,tworeceivers may,beoperated sothatonereceiver isheterodyneslaveconnectedto theother,oranexternallyconnectedmasteroscillator unitmaybeusedtoprovidetheheterodynesforboth receivers.Toprovidef

25、oracommon3.5.mccrystal- controlledheterodynebetweenreceivers,theIFO! connector(6, figure1-3)ofeachreceiver isinter- connectedandtheIFOEXTINTswitch(2, figure1-2)oftheslave receiver is settoEXT.Like- wise,forthefixed-frequency crystal-controlled hetero- dyne,theHFOOUTPUTconnector(figure5-4)of each isi
