Only aproperly matched antenna systemwillallow maximum power transfer from the 50Q transmission lineto the radiating element. YourUniden dealer is

、qualified to assist you in the selection of the proper antenna to meet your application re- quirements. For automobile installations, a quarter wave whip antennamay be used with good effect. The most efficient and practical installation isto mount it on the rear deck or fender top midway between the

、 rear window and bumper. Ashort base loaded whip antenna ismore convenient to install, but the efficiency is less than a quarter wave whip. For marine installations, consult your dealer for information regarding an adequ- ate grounding system and prevention of electrolysis. Warning: Standing WaveRat

、ios in excess of 2: 1may cause transmitter damage. GroundInformation Most newer and foreign made cars and smalltrucks use a 13.8VDCnominal ne- gative ground system, while some older cars and large trucks use apositive ground system. Anegative ground system isgenerally identified by the negative (-)

、bat- teryterminal being connected to the vehicle frame or engine block, but ifyou can- not determine the polarity ofyour vehicle orare unsure, contact your vehicledeal- er for definite information. Warning:YourHR 2510is designedfor operation on a 13.8 VDC nomina/, negative ground system only. Operat

PowerCord Connection The red lead (with the inline fuse)ofthe supplied power cord isto be connected to a hot (positive) wire, and the black lead to ground. As the HR2510 draws ap- preciable current during t

、ransmitting, you maywish to connect the positive lead direcly to the battery, or to a main supply wire. 9 - r fJ - Operation Selectinga frequency VFO Operation Selecting an operating frequency using the HR2510s built-in VFO iseasy. Make sure that the F. Lock keyisNOT depressed, and then simplyrotate

、 the dialto the desired operating frequency. TheVFOwill step ineither 10KHz, 1KHz,or 100Hz increments. Thestep increment isindicated bya line under one ofthe 3 rightmost digits of the frequency display. Tochange the VFO step, press the Span button until the desired step isindicated by the black line

、. When using the VFO,you do not need to manually select the band segment, as this isdone automatically, so that the tuning range is continous throughoutthe entire operating frequency range. ChannelSelect Operation Youmayalso select the operating frequency using the Channel1 and Vbut- tons on the fro

、nt panel or the microphone. The channel select buttons willselect any10KHzchannelin a band segment(50 channelsin a; 28.0000to 28.4900,b;28.5000to 28.9900,c;29.0000 to 29.4900,and 20 channelsin d;29.5000to 29.6900 MHz).The 10KHz channelfrequencies are pre-pro- grammed and cannot be changed. When step

、ping up or down, the unit will tune to the nearest 10KHz channel. NOT to the dial frequency + or - 10KHz. When you reach channel 50 (channel 20 insegment d), pressing the Channel1 but- ton again willstep to channel 1,conversely, when you are on channel 1,pressing the ChannelVbutton will step to chan

、nel 50 (channel 20 in segment d). Toselect a band segment, press the Band button until the desired band segment letter is displayed. It is displayed on the display above the channel number. Ifyou press and hold down the Channel1button, the HR2510 will continu- ously step up through the pre-programme

、d channels. As it reaches channel 50, (channel 20 insegment d), itwill go to channel 1,stop momentarily, and beep to letyou know that you are at channel 1. Inthe same manner, pressing the Chan- nel Vkeywilalso do this, but itwillstop and beep at channel 50 (channel 20 in segment d) to let you know. 1

、0 f: L - - I -= Operatigrl.continued- Receive Scanning The receive scanning functions of your HR2510 make it easy to find active fre- quencies. Youcan scan 50 10KHzchannels insegment a,b,or C.and 20 channels insegment d. Scanning isalways from the lower frequency to higher frequencies, and always in

、 10KHz steps. ScanningOperation Tobegin scanning, press the Scan button. Ifthere isa transmission on the current frequency (the squelch isbroken open). pressing the Scan button willjust step up one channel.Ifthe squelch is NOT broken, scanning will begin. The unit willscan through the selected band

、segment until itencounters a signal strong enough to break (open) the squelch. Itwillthen stop on that frequency for the duration ofthe transmission. When the transmission stops, the HR2510 will wait approximately 1.5seconds before resuming the scan cycle, to allow you to hear a return transmission

、on that channel. Ifyou take no further action, the scan will resume. When the scan has stopped fora transmission, momentarily pressing the Chan- nel/or ChannelVswitch on the microphone will stop the scan on the channel. To exit from scan mode while still scanning, simply press the Channel/or Channel

、Vbutton.Ifthe scan has stopped on an active frequency, you can press the Channel/and Vbuttons on the microphone, orthe Channel/ andV F. Lock, Band, or TX buttons on the front panel of the HR2510. CW Operation Using CW mode with the HR2510 iseasy. Just select your operating frequency, place the mode

、switch in CW, and youre ready to transmit CW ifyou have con- nected an external keyto the accessory plug on the rear of the unit. (Seethe sec- tion onrearpanel connectors for informationon connecting a CWkey.) To use CW mode with an external key, select an operating frequency, place the mode switch

、inCW,and you are now ready to operate as semi break-in CWmode. (Ifyou leave the key up for more than 1second, the receiver isenabled. The HR 2510 has a built-in sidetone oscillator foryour convenience. Note: Ifthe TXswitch isdepressed, the receiverwill be disabled. The HR2510 willNOT transmit in CW m

、ode unless an external key is connected and in a key down condition. Toadjust the pitch of the received CWnote, you can use either the VFO or RITto tune itas desired. (Note:Adjusting the RITwillNOT affect the frequency display) 11 - I iI - _. Operation-coninued USB/LSB/AM/FM Operation Using the HR2S

、10 forvoice communications as either USB,LSB, AMor FMmodes issimple. Simplyselect your desired operating frequency, turn the mode switch to the desired type of operation, and the P1T switch controls the transmit and re- ceive. Tofinetune the receive signal in USBor LSB, you can use either the VFOor

、RITcontrols. (Note: Using the RITcontrol to fine tune the receive frequency will NOT affect the frequency display.) The MicGain control can (and should) be used when you are transmitting from a high ambient noise environment. Pressing the Mic Gain control reduces the out- put fromthe microphone. Pre
