Designed for opration on th 80 through 10 meter amateur bands (including WARC bands), th FC-700 will provide a 50-ohm
2、load to th transceiver when th feedpoint impdance of th antenna System is within th approximate range of 10 ohms to 250 ohms. The FC-700 includes a built-in SWR and power meter, providing 15 watt and 150 watt scales. Also included is an internai 50-ohm dummy load, which may be selected instead of th

High-quality low-loss components are used throughout th FC-700. The matching function it performs means th transmitter can al

The inhrent selectivity of th FC-700 matching circuitry helps attenuate harmonies too, thus reducing th chance of harmonic-related TVI or out-of-band missions. 11、R, it should be continued by further moving th LOAD control in th same direc- tion, but if th initial change in th LOAD control worsens th SWR, move th LOAD control in th opposite direction. It will be clear to th operator when th LOAD control is being adjusted in th right direction. Refer to Figure

The antenna may then be selected, with final tuning taking only a few seconds. (1) Set up th FT-77 or othe

Reduce th drive control on th transceiver to th minimum, and place th transmitter in th standby condition for th moment. (2) Place th BAND, LOAD, und TUNE ton trois in th positions shown in Figure 1

Adjust th SWR SET control to align th meter needle with th SET marking on th meter scale. Now switch th FWD/REV switch to REV for accurate reading of th SWR. (4) Adjust th TUNE control for

If necessary, adjust th SWR SET control and/or transmitter drive to ensure proper calibration (be certain to check th SWR meter sensitivity with th FWD/REV switch in th FWD position, then switch back to REV). Once th dip has been found using th TUNE control, move th LOAD control a smal

Again dip th TUNE control, and continue this procdure until no further improvement is noted. If th initial direction of ad

Remember to recheck th calibration of th SWR meter to avoid misleading readings. - 6 (5) Once th initial procdure has been followed to yield a

Following th technique described above, tune your antenna System so as to secure minimum SWR with th antenna. Always begin tuning at low power, to avoid possible damage to transcei

23、 power. (2) Any matching perfbrmed by th FC-700 in th shack will hve no effect on th lOSSeS due to SWR on th coaxial Une between th FC-700 coupler and th antenna. The operator should consult one of th popular antenna handbooks to dtermine whether or not matching between th coaxial line and th antenn
24、a must be per- formed at th antenna. For example, a 100- foot length of RG8A/U coax typically has a loss (with 1:1 SWR between it and antenna) of less than 1 dB at 21 MHz. If this line is operated with a 3:1 SWR due to a low or high antenna impdance, th loss due to SWR will increase roughly 0.5 dB,#
25、n imperceptible dgradation as compared to th 1:1 condition. In this case, attempts to reduce th 3:1 SWR at th antenna end would serve no useful purpose as far as reducing losses in th coax, through matching with th FC-700 would improve th impdance presented to th transmitter output circuitry- Howeve
26、r, if a 500-foot length of th above coax were used instead of oniy ioo feet, somewliat more than 1 dB of loss would occur in th ooflv due to th 3:1 SWR, possibly justifying further matching attempts at tlic untciinu. (3) When using a transceiver such as th FT-77 which has protection for th output tr
27、an- sistors against high SWR, it can be seen that th matching action of th FC-700 will ensure that a 50-ohm load is presented to th output circuitry, thus ensuring full transmitter power. (4) It may be useful for th operator to record in a notebook th proper TUNE and LOAD positions for a particular
28、antenna for quick rfrence. Alternatively, appropriate labels may be fabricated and applied to th FC-700 front panel showing th proper positions of th TUNE and LOAD controls for a particular frequency.
