12、swith continuous adjustmentofvoltageandcurrentlimiting.Thecur- rentlimitcnbesetatanycurrentbetween 100ma and2amperestoprotectcircuitelements,suchas transistors,undertest. 1-6.Twometersmeasurebothcurrentandvoltage drawnbytheloadcontinuouslysothatyoumaymonitor powersupplydrainconveniently.Theoutputimp

13、edance islowforboth dc andacsothataminimumofde- couplingisrequiredincascadedcircuits.Terminals forremotesensingareprovidedontherearofthe chassissothattheohmicresistanceofthesupply leadsisminimized. 1-7.TheusefulnessoftheModel 722Aisnotlimited totransistorapplications,butisusefulwherever highstabilit

21、imittheinput totheamplifierinboth thepositiveandnegativedirections.Considerwhat happenswhentheoutputvoltagedrops.Thisdropmay bea slowshiftin outputvoltageoranacsignalonthe output.ACsignalsarefed totheamplifierthrough C5 and R40.Thislow-impedancepathincreasesthe loopgainforacsignals.When thevoltageon

22、 thebase of Q13(seefigure4-3)becomesmorepositive(less negativeaswhentheoutput ofthesupplydrops)Q13 drawsmorebasecurrentsincetheemitter-basebias isincreased(Q13isanpn-typetransistor).This signalisamplifiedandreversedinphase.When coupledtoQ12,thisreversedsignalagaincauses morecurrentto flowsincethefor

23、wardbiasisagain increased(Q12isapnp-typetransistor). 4-12.Diodes CR18 and CR19arezenerdiodeswhich providedirectcouplingbetweenthestagesinthe amplifierandmaintainpropercollectorvoltageson thetransistorelements.Thesediodesarekeptinthe zenerbreakdowncondition bythecurrentsflowingin resistorsR35,R36,R38

24、,and R39.Thesignalis amplifiedandinvertedinQ12.CapacitorCIS,in- ductanceLlandresistorR31intheemittercircuit of Q12helpstabilizetheloop.Theemitterof Q12 isconnectedthroughthesecomponentsto a point which isseparatedfromthepositiveoutputterminalbyre- sistorR33.Loadcurrentthroughthisresistorinjects curr

25、entfeedbackintotheloop whichimprovestheload regulation.TheinvertedsignalfromQ12tendsto 4-2 Model 722A reducethebasecurrentinQ11(apnp-typetransistor). Thesignalisamplifiedandinvertedin Q11and fed to thebaseof Q2.Thissignaltendstoincreasethe currentthroughQ2(anotherpnp-typetransistor). Increasingthecu

26、rrentthroughQ2increasesthevolt- ageout ofthesupply.Sincetheoriginalactionwas adecreaseinvoltagethisactionwill tend torestore theoriginalconditions,regulatingthesupply. 4-13.Thedcoutputvoltageissetbyvaryingthe COARSE and FINE VOLTAGEcontrolsR24 and R25. Inexplainingthiscircuit,resistorR51canbethought

27、 ofasaconstant-currentsource.Mostofthiscur- rentnormallyflows outthroughR24 and R25tothe seriesregulatorwith only aninsignificantamount going tothebaseof Q13.Thusastheresistanceof R24 and R25isincreasedthevoltageonthenegative outputleadwill gofurthernegativesincetheconstant currentthroughtheseresist

28、orswill develop agreater voltagedrop. 4-14.CURRENT-POWERLIMITER. 4-15.TransistorQ4plusassociatedcircuitryforms aprotectivecircuitwhichlimitsthecurrentandpower dissipationintheseriesregulatorsandload.Refer- ringtofigure4-3,nocurrentflows throughQ4under normalconditionssincethebaseisbiasedpositive wit

29、hrespecttotheemitter.Themaximumcurrent availableforthebaseofQ2isfixed bytheresistors RIOandRllandthereferencesupply.Normally,the currentnotusedbythebaseofQ2to supply acertain loadcurrentpassesthroughthecollectorofQl1. 4-16.Whentheinstrumentisinthecurrent-limiting condition,itisessentiallyaconstant-c

30、urrentsupply ratherthan avoltagesupply.Thevoltagederived acrossR18iscoupledtothebaseofQ4throughCR8 and R14.As theloadcurrentincreases,thisvoltage increasestoalevelwhereQ4beginstoconduct.Any attempttoincreasetheloadcurrentfurthermerely turnsQ4onharder,deprivingQ2ofthenecessary basecurrenttosustainthi

31、slargerloadcurrent.This actiontendstokeeptheloadcurrentconstant.Since theoutputvoltageisbelowthedesiredoutputvoltage inthecurrent-limitingcondition,theamplifierturns offQl1.WithQ11turnedofftheonlypathsforthe currentthroughRIO and R11areintothebaseofQ2 andthecollectorof Q4. 4-17.Referringtofigure4-3,

32、astheloadresistance isfurtherdecreasedtheoutputvoltagedecreases sincethecurrentisheldconstant.Thistendstoin- creasethevoltageacrosstheseriesregulator.When thisvoltagereachesacertainvalue,thezenerdiode CR6 willstartto conduct.Thiscurrentappearsto Q4tobeduetoincreasingloadcurrentandQ4tends toconductmo
