13、lnumber,that is,000-00000.The firstthreedigitsareanidentificationnumber;thelast five digitsarethe instrumentserialnumber.Iftheidentificationnumber on theinstru- ment daes notagreewiththeidentificationnumber shown onthemanualtitlepage, therearedifferencesbetweenthe manual and instrument. 14、ncesare describedinmanuolchongesheets having the prooeridentificotionnumber. 1-5GeneralDecription 1-6The-hp-Model 6960ADCpower supply produces aregulatedDCvoltageconti- nuouslyadjustablefrom 0 to 36 V up to acurrentof300 rnA, or from 0 to18V up to acurrentof600rnA,accordingtowhichrangehasbeenselecte
15、dby meansof thefrontpanelpushbuttons.The supply makes loadcircuitperformanceidepencient ofexternalpower supplyinfluences,hasverylow sourceimpedanceandexcellent regulationagainstchangeinlineandload. This supplyisespeciallyuseful as a sourceofpower for transistorcircuitsbecause itfeaturesaprotectiveci

17、ssive currentcanthusbereducedto a minimum, if theCURRENTLIMITcontrolisset to avaluejust abovethenormal operating currentofthe externalcircuit.Another important appl icationofthe Model 6960A Power Supplyisinelectronictest systems where various fixed voltages have tobe producedsequentiallywith a highd
18、egreeofreproducability.Thiscan beachieved because the outputvoltageofthissupplymaybeprogrammedbyanexternally connectedfixed resistor or a seriesofsame.Theoutputvoltagewill thenbepro- portional tothevalueofthis resistor; changing the resistorinpredetermined steps will have corresponding effects on th
19、e outputvoltoge. Bothoutput terminals of the power supply are insulatedfromchassis ground. Either terminalmaybe grounded as high as 400 Vfromground.Itistherefore possible toconnecta numberofsupplies in series to obtain higher voltages than 36V. Ifmore current than 600mAisneeded,thereisthe possibi Ii
20、tyofoperating several power suppl ies inparallel. 28、ybewithinthesupplyrating orbelowthemaximumcurrentsetwiththeCURRENT LIMITcontrol,butpeak currentsmoybehighenoughtocausethesupplytoclip.The CURRENTLIMIT controlmust,consequently,besetto avaluewhichisgreaterthanthepeak currentrequirementsofthecircuit. Theoutputterminalsareconnectedinternallytoa200juFca
29、pacitorwhich helps supply highcurrentpeaks,providedtheyareofshortduration.Anyexter- nalcapacityaddedwillimprovethepeakcurrentcapability,butwilldecrease thesafetyprovidedbythecurrentIimitcontrol.Highrangecurrentsmaythen destroyexternalcomponentsbeforetheaveragecurrentinsidethesupply;11 increasessuffi

The user should realize that the specifications describing the electrical characteristics ofthe power supply are given for measurements made directly at the terminals.Longleads between
33、 instrument and loaddeteriorateloadregulation, whichcanonlybemaintainedwithinthespecificationsofthepower supply by using remote sensing as describedlaterinthissectionofthemanual. 3-7Automatic ParallelOperation 3-8Automaticparalleloperationas used hereisdefinedas aparalleloperationof twoormore power
34、supplies withoneunit(the master)actingas a controlunit andtheadditionalunits (the slaves)actingascontrolledunits,whereeachsupply automaticallyprovides an equal shareofcurrent.Each Model 6960Acanbe used as master orslaveunit. The connectionsofthesupplies have to be made inaccordancewith Fig.3-2C. NOT
35、E Allunits mustoperateonthesamevoltage range(0-18Vor0-36V)! Turn onthemasterunitfirst, thentheslaveunits.Each supply will sharetheload currentandthemasterunitwillautomaticallylimitthevoltageandthecurrent forallunits. Each slave unit stiIImaintains its own shortcircuitprotectionandshould be set to ac
36、urrentlimit slightlygreaterthan the maximumcurrentsetonthemasteri:; unit.Iftheslaveunit wassetto a current limitslightlygreaterthanthemaster unit and iftheslaveunit was turned on first,theequipment under test might be damaged by excessivecurrentbeforethemasterunitwas turned on and took overthecurren
37、tcontrol. 3-9Automatic SeriesOperation 3-10Twoormore supplies may beoperatedinseries toobtaina highervoltagethan thatobtainablefroma singlesupply.Oneunit(the master)actsas a control unit,which controls theadditionalunits (theslaves).The master willsetthe totaloutputvoltagewitheachunitcontributingthe
38、same amountofvoltage. Any Model 6960A may be used as masterorslaveunit. Connect theoutputterminalsofthe unitssothatthetwoterminalsofthe master are the most negativeofall. The arrangementsofinterunit connections areshowninFig.3-2b for two unitsandinFig.3-2d forthreeor moreunits. Theconnectionbeween -

Remote Sensing Whentherearterminalsoftheinstrumentareconnectedinthenormalfashion, thevoltageforregulationcontrol(sensingvoltage)ist
45、akenfromtheoutputof thesupplyatthefrontpanel.Thisisnotalwaysthebestpointtoobtainthis voltage,becausetheremay be avoltagedropinthesupplyleadsbetweenthe loadandthesupply. Togetaroundthiseffect,aseparatesetofterminalsforthesensingvoltage (+Sand-S)areprovidedontherearoftheinstrument.Theseterminalspermit
46、 aseparatepairofleadstoconnectatthe loadtosupplythesensingvoltage. The leadscarryno loadcurrentbutareinsidetheregulationloopofthe amplifier. Touseremotesensing,run aseparatesetofleads fromtheload tothesensing terminals.Theseleadsdonotneedto be asheavyasthesupplyleadsbutthey must beprotectedagainsthu
