LOWFREQUENCYSTANDARD MODEL100B CAUTION READBEFORETURNINGONTHEINSTRUMENT Theheatingofthecrystaloveninthisinstrumentisregulatedbyamer- cury-columnswitch.Occasionally,themercurycolumnisseparatedbyjarring andvibrationofthe
3、unitinshipment. Afterturningtheinstrumentonforthefirsttime,keepaclosecheckon thetemperatureofthecrystalovenasindicatedbythethermometerinthefront panel.Whentheinstrumenthasbeenonabout30minutes,thecrystalovenshould remainautomaticallyataratherconstanttemperature.Thisconditionwillbein- dicatedbyashutti
4、ngoffofthecrystalpilotlampfromtimetotime,andbythe factthatthethermometerwillreachafairlysteadyreadingofabout65degrees Centigrade. However,ifthecrystalpilotlightstaysoncontinuously,andifthether- mometergoesupbeyond70degrees,themercurycolumnintheswitchorther- mometerhasprobablybeenseparatedinshipment.
5、Turntheinstrumentoff immediatelyandproceedasfollows. Removeinstrumentfromcabinetandremovecrystalovenunitwhich plugsintubesocketadjacenttothermometerwindow.Removethermometer bracketandpullthermometercarefullyfromoven. Inspectthermometerformercurycolumnseparationandanyminute airbubblesinmercurybulb. I
6、feitherairbubblesorseparationarepresent,placethethermometer bulbinicewateruntilmercuryoccupiesonlythebulbcompartment.Tap lightlytoremoveanybubblesorglobulesleftincolumn. Thenplacethebulbinavesselofwaterandheatuntilmercurycom- pletelyfillscolumnandasmallportionoftheenlargementattopofcolumn. Thenremov
7、ethermometerandwatcmercurydescendtoroomtemperature. Ifthereisnoseparationorbubbles-present,thethermometermaynowbe putbackinservice.ItmaybenecessarytorepeattheaboveproceduremOre thanoncetouniteallthemercuryandremoveallbubbles. -CAUTION- RadioFans.CN 收音机爱 好者资料库 -CAUTION- Ifafterreplacingthecrystalandh
8、eater ll unitthecrystalheaterpilot staysonafterthermometerreaches70 0 pthemercuryswitchcolumnhasprob- ablyseparated.Proceedasfollows:Removecrystalovenunitandthermometeras describedabove.Removemercuryswitchbracketandthethreescrewsonthe outsidebottomofcastingandonescrewattopendofunit. Removecoverandli
9、ftinnerunitoutofcasting.Thenremovethemercury thermostatswitchfromitsrecessininnercasting. TounitethemercurycolurPlnandremovebubblespusesameprocedureas usedforthethermometer. CAUTION:Immergeonlybulbportionofmercuryswitch. Ifmercuryswitchleadsgetwetoranymoisturecollects beneaththeplasticinsulatorcover
10、ingthecotactrings.re- movetheplasticinsulatoranddrytubeandinsulatorand leadsthoroughlybeforeplacingbackinservice.Otherwise leakagebetweenleadsmaycauseheaterrelaytoremainop. Alsopwhenreplacingmercuryswitchdonotseatitanydeeper incastingthannecessary;otherwisethethermometerwillnot seattonecessarydepth.
11、 Reassemblethecrystalovenunitandplaceininstrument.Turnthein- strumentonandkeepacheckonthethermometertoascertainthattheswitch andthermometerreworkingproperly. -CAUTION- INSTRUCTIONS LowFrequencyStandard Model100B GEU.GRALDuCRIPTION TheModel100BLowFrequencyStandardconsistsofa100kc crystal-controlledos
12、cillator,andaseriesofthree10to1 regenerativemodulatortypefrequencydividersprovidingfre- quenciesof10kc,1kc,and100cps.Outputfromeachfrequency isbroughttoseparateterminalsattherearofthechassis throughbufferstageshavingalowoutputimpedance.Twoout- putterminalsarealsoprovidedonthefrontpanel,togetherwith
13、aswitchtoselectanyoneoftheoutptfrequenciesdesired. Outputonallfrequenciesisessentillysinusoidal. 100kcOscillator:The100kcoscillatorconsistsofa 100kccrystalhavingatemperature.coefficientof2cyclesper megacycleperdegreeCentigrade,inamodifiedColpittscircuit uinga6SJ7oscillatortube.Athermostatically-cont
14、rolledoven isemployedtoregulatethecrystaltemperature.Thecrystalis inserieswiththetankinductance,thecircuitoscillatingunder controlofthecrystalwhenthetamecircuitistunedapproxi- matelytothecrystalfrequency.Oscillationswillbemaintained overafairrangeofthetuningcapacitor,whichisusedto adjustthecrystalto
15、exactly100kc. FrequencyDividers:Thefrequencyofthe100kcoscillator isdividedinstepsof10to1,bymeansofthreeregnerative modulatortypefrequencydividers.Thefirstdividerstepsthe 100kcdownto10kc,theseconddividerstepsthe10kcdownto 1kc,andthethirdstepsthe1kcdownto100cps.Theaction ofallthreedividersisalike,alth
16、oughtheexactmethodof obtainingtheresultdiffersslightlyineach.Thefundamental actionisasfollows: Afrequencyfisintroducedintothefirstgridofa6L7 modulatortube,whichhasitsplatecircuittunedtoafrequency f/lO.Theplatecircuitisalsocoupledtooneofthegrids ofanother6L7actingasafrequencymultiplier,andhavingits p
17、latecircuittunedtoafrequency9f/lO.Theplatecircuitof themultiplierisinturncoupledbacktothethirdgridofthe modulatortube 2 . Assumeatransientofsonesorthasstarteasmallvoltage ofafrequencyf/10intheplatecircuitofthemodulator. Thisismultipliedbythemultipliertubetoafrequency9f/10, andfedtothethirdgridofthem
18、odulatorwhereitmixeswith thefrequencyLcominginonthefirstgridtogiveafrequency f-9f/10,orf/10,inthemodulatorplatecircuit,increasing thef/10voltagestartedoutbytheinitialtransient. Theactiongoesaroundthecircuitagain,thef/10voltage soonbuildinguptoastablemaximumvalue.Iftheincoming frequencyfisremoved,the
19、f/IOwillimmediatelystop,for thereisnothingtomixwithtomaintainitselfinoperation. Inordertofacilitutethemultiplyingactionincertain cases,someofthefre.uencyfisintroducedinoneoftheother gridsofthemultinliertubewhereamodulatingactionthentukes place,similartothatinthemodulatortube,thefr0uency!com- biningw
20、iththefrequencyf/10toiveafreuencyf-f/lO,or 9f/10,initsplatecircuit. BufferrtaGes:Outputfromthe100kcoscillator,andeach ofthedividersisakenfromseparatebufferstagesconsisting of6AC7s,triodeconnected,inacathodeloadcircuit.This providesalowoutputimpedance,sothatloadsaslowas1000ohms maybeplacedacrostheout
21、putwithoutappreciablyloweringthe outputvoltage.Thecathodeloadcircuitalsoprovidescomplete isolationofthedifferentoutputfrequencies. ow-rSuply:Thepowersources.10uldbea115volt,60cycle supplyline.Thehighvolta,eisobtainedfromanelectronically- regulatedrectifiersupplysothatthelinevoltaemayvary from105to12
22、5voltswithoutaffectingtheoperation.legulatin thehighvoltagesupplyalsoprovidesalowaudioimpedancein theplatesupplycircuit,andaidsinpreventinginteraction betueenthevariousoutputfrequencies OPEiATION InitialInstallation:Whentheinstrumentisfirstput intooperation,thefollowingprocedureshouldbeobserved: 1.I
23、lakesurealltubesarefirmlyintheirsockets,and thatthegridclipsareonllthe6L7tubes. 2.Followthecautionsonthefirctpageofthis.anual. 3.Plugpowercordintoa115volt,60cyclepowersupply. Itwilltakeabout24hoursofheatingforthecrystal itselftocomeuptotheroperoperationtemperature :3 Attheendofthattime,checktheratio
24、sbetweenthe variousfrequencydividerslithanoscilloscope,as fo110is: a.Connectthehorizontaldefectinglatestcthe10kc bindingpOS0S,andtheverticaldefleccingplatostothe100kc bindingposts.Astationarypatternwith10peaksacrossthe topshouldbeobtained.Ifthispatternisnotstationary,or isblurred,adjustthetuningcapa
25、citorinthe10kcdivider untilaclear,stationary10to1patternisobtained.The capacitorshouldbeleftinthecentralpositionbet,eenthe twopointswherethepatternceasestobestationary.Each dividercircuitisdirectlyinline,frontorear,withitscor- respondingoutputterminalsatthereurofthechassis. b.Repeataboveprocedure,us
26、ingthe10kcandthe1kc output,andthetuningcapacitoronthe1kcdividero c.Repeat,usingthe1kcand100cpsoutput,andthe ta-switchcapacitoradjustmentforthe100cpsdivider. Outputvoltacesfromallfre1ucnciesshGuIdbe5voltsor betteronopencircuitafteraboveadjustment.Theinstrument isnowreadyforoperation. Outputfromanyoft
27、heoutputfreuenciesmaybeobtained separatelyfromthemarkedbindincpostsattherearofthe chassis,orifdesired,anyofthefrequenciesmaybeobtained fromthebindingpostsonthefrontpanelbysettin0theselector switchtothedesiredfrequency.Outputatallfrequenciesis practicallysinusoidal,sothatfrequenciesmaybeusedfor frequ
28、encydeterminationbymeansofLissajousfiGuresuptohigh andcomplexratios. Loadingtheoutputwithlesthan1000ohmsloadwilllower theoutputvoltageconsiderably,andwillalsocausesomedis- tortionwhichmightbeobjectionableforusewithhighmultiple orcomplexpatterns.IfharmonicsoftheoutputBredeeired, seepage5forcompletein
