7、IBRATE secondaryofthepower transformerisconnected acrosstheinputofthe amplifierinordertomeasure thepowerlinefrequencyasa checkontheinstrument calibration. Themeterisconnectedasa DCmilliametertomeasurethe currentdrawnbytheswitching tubes(V4,.V5).Thecurrent isadjustedsothatthemeter pointercoincideswit
8、hthe calibrationmarkonthemeter scale.Theamplifierinput isshortcircuitedwhenthe switchisinthisposition. RANGE_Thisswitchisusedtoinsertthecorrectcouplingcapacitorsand metershuntresistorsinthecircuitforanydesiredrangeoffrequencymeasure- ment. CALIBRATE-Thiscontrolisusedtoadjustthecurrentdrawnbythe swit
9、chingtubes. RECORDER-TheRECORDERjackisprovidedforconnectingarecorder totheinstrument.ThisinstrumentisdesignedtodriveanEasterline-Angus AutomaticRecorder.However,otherrecordersmaybesubstitutediftheir resistanceis1400ohms100ohmsandafullscaleindicationcanbeobtained withacurrentofonemilliampere. ON-OFF-
10、Thistoggleswitchcontrolsallthepowersuppliedtothe instrumentfromthepowerline. FUSE-Thefuseholder,locatedonthebackoftheinstrument,contains a 1amperecartridgefuse.Toreplacethefuse,unscrewthefuseholdercapand removetheblownfuse,insertanewfuseofthesametypeandreplacethefuse- holdercap.For230voltoperationth
11、isfuseshouldhavea1/2ampererating. ReplacementfusesmustbeoftheSlo-BlotypeasspecifiedintheTableof ReplaceablePartsinthisinstructionmanual. PowerCable-Thisisaspecialthreeconductorpowercablewitha standardtwoprongmaleplugmoldedononeend.Thethirdconductor(green) protrudesfromthepowercableneartheplugandmayb
12、eusedtoconnectthe instrumentchassistoanexternalground. -3- Operation- Theprocedureformeasuringfrequencyisasfollows: 1.TurnthepowerswitchtoONandallowtheinstrumenttowarmupfor twoorthreeminutes.Ifmaximumaccuracyisdesired,measurementsshould notbemadeuntiltheinstrumentiscompletelywarmedup. 2.SettheUSE-LI
13、NEFREQ.-CALIBRATEswitchtotheCALIBRATE position.AdjustheCALIBRATEcontrolsothatthemeterpointercoincides withthemeterscaledivisionlabeledC-locatedatapproximately85onthe 0-100meterscale.Thisstepintheprocedurecalibratestheinstrument.The calibrationshouldberecheckedoccasionallywhilemakingmeasurements. 3.S
14、ettheRANGEswitchtothe100range.ChangetheUSE-LINE FREQ.-CALIBRATEswitchtotheLINEFREQ.position.Thefrequencyofthe powerlinevoltageisindicatedbythemeter.Thismeasurementservesasa checkonthecalibrationoftheinstrmnent. CAUTION NoexternalvoltageshouldbeappliedtothelOputterminalswhenthe powerlinefrequencyisbe
15、ingmeasured.Applicationofexternalvoltagemay causeinaccuratelinefrequencymeasurements. 4.ChangetheUSE-LINEFREQ.-CALIBRATEswitchtotheUSEposi- tionandapplythevoltagetobemeasuredtotheINPUTterminals.Setthe RANGEswitchtocoverthefrequencybeingmeasured.Iftheapproximate frequencyisunknown,turntheRANGEswitcht
16、othehighestfrequencyrange. Changetheswitchtosuccessivelylowerrangesuntilarangeisfoundthatpro- ducesareadablemeterindication. 5.Whilethemeterisindicatingthefrequencybeingmeasured,depress andholdintheTESTbutton.Ifthemeterindicationisunchangedbythistest, thenthereissufficientinputvoltagefortheinstrumen
17、ttoproduceanaccurate frequencymeasurement.Insufficientinputvoltage,asshownbyalowered meterindicationwhentheTESTbuttonispressed,willcauseinaccuratefre- quencymeasurements. AttachingaRecordertoheModel500A- WhenarecorderisusedwiththeModel500A,itisnecessarythatthe compensatingresistorintheinstrumentbead
18、justedsothattheresistanceof therecordermatchestheinstrument.
