Protection Against Static Charges Because CMOS components are very sensitive to static discharges, you should observe these cautions when work- ing with printed circuit boards (PCBs): Because uninstalled boards are not grounded, they a

3、re more easily damaged by static discharges. There- fore, keep uninstalled boards in their anti-static packaging until you are ready to work on them. Wear a wrist grounding strap whenever you may even inadvertently touch a PCB. Programming the New CPU Since the new CPU comes with factory-default pro

4、gram- ming, you will have to reprogram the board before it will work properly with the system. You will want to do so before installing the unit if you either program the unit outside the system (by using a temporary power supply) or use the first of the following methods: (1) Remove the EEPROM (U5)

5、 from the old CPU and substitute it for the one on the new board. (2) If you have a copy of the system programming on a disk, use the TD program to down-load it to the new board. (If you don t have such a copy, you may be able to use the TDS program to make such a file by gathering the information f

6、rom the old board.) (3) If you have the system programming on paper, use the TD program to enter this data into the new board. Ins talla tion 0 Turn off all power to the system. 0 Remove the front panel from the central system, then remove the locking bar that secures the PCBs inside. 0 Remove the C

7、PU s flat-cable connector by spreading its plastic “jaws.” Remove any other connectors to this PCB as well. Slide out the old CPU and slide in the new one.
