Instructions for opera- ting the ModelTA/MarkIIUnit are given in this manual-pleasefollow these instructions carefully. In common with all mechanical devi
4、ces, minor adjustments are sometimesnecessary.TheService Instructions included have been compiled to cover practically all the information necessary to ensure efficient operation. THESESCREWSMUSTBEREMOVEDBE- FOREUSINGTHEUNIT.Thepositionofthe screws is shown on the templateandDiagram1. Theplug in pickup headisalso retained by a transit screw (Diagram 4) which should be loosen
12、ed to readily remove the head. With aTurnovertype pickup this screw should remain tight. Four CORE Paie FITTINGTOCABINET Having opened the carton, the templateandin- structions will be found lyingontopofthe first liner andunderneathitwillbefoundtheturntable. Asmallenvelopecontainingtwowoodscrews and
13、washers, for transit purposes, and the turntable clip, will be found in one corner of the cartonat the sideofthe second liner. Lift the unit out of the carton and attach a suitable flexible lead for the power supply to the twoterminals in the frontof the terminal block. (Diagram 6).Atthe same time,
14、in- spect the links in the block to ensure that they are set correctly to suit the voltage and frequency of the electrical supply. (Diagram 5). Replace the cover of the terminal block. A lengthofscreened pickup lead should be soldered to the lower soldering tags of the pickup terminal panel as shown

16、le and while holding therubbertyred inter- mediate wheeloutof the way, lubricate themotor and pulley bearings with a light gradeofmachine oil. Carefully remove every trace of oil from the driving surfaces before replacing the turntable. Connect both barslhu. for200/250volts A.C. Connect bars tbus fo
17、r 100/130 volts A.C. pressure under diametrically opposite sides of the rim with the fingers and lifting with a slight twisting motion. FITTINGTURNTABLE. Make sure that the speed change knobisinthe neutralpositiontoreleasethetensiononthe intermediate wheel. 2Place the turntable on its spindleandgent

19、iedandthe links on the terminal block should be set to the correct positiontocorrespond with the voltageofthe power supply as shown in Diagram5.A motor driving pulley can be suppliedfor 40,50or60 cycle power supply as required. Themotor should be earthed by connecting a lead from the earthing tag lo
20、cated under one of themotor end cover screws, to a good earth connection. Ifthe unitisto be used with a radio setoramplifier havingaUniversal(ACjDC)chassis,orifthe reproducerisa battery set coupledtoa Universal H.T. battery eliminator, itisessential tomakesurethat isolating components (condensersort
21、ransformer)are incorporatedinthe pickup input circuit in the set other- wise the pickup circuit can become live. Should the isolating componentsnotbe included in the set they should be fitted externally in series with TOREMOVETURNTABLE.the pickup leads. Consult your radio dealer if in doubt. Theturn

25、ModelTA/MarkIIisdesigned togivethedesiredturntablespeedwithinclose tolerances.Should the turntable run excessively fast orslow, then themotorpulley should be examined to see if itISthe correct one to suit the frequency of the power supply. Themotorpulleyiscolour finished as follows to distinguish th
26、e threetypes:- NICKEL BRASS COPPER SPEED VARIATION. Itisessentialthat the driving surfacesofthe motor pulley, therubberinter-wheel and the turntable rim, shouldbe kept absolutely free from oiland grease. Thisisthe first point which must be checked if the turntable speed variesandthe pulleyandinter-
27、wheel should be cleaned with a dry cloth if oil on the driving surfacesissuspected. MOTORS. If themotorfails to start when the unitisswitched on, firstcheck the power supplyandascertain if currentisreaching themotorterminals.Ifcorrect. switch off the power supply and examine the terminal blockandsee
28、thatthe leads and screwsaretight; also examine the switch contacts which are accessible by removing the cover from the switch. (Diagram I). Clean andadjustifnecessary. Thick oil should not be used to lubricate themotor bearings as it will cause themotorto appear weak or fail to startandit will then
29、be necessary to dis- mantle themotorandclean away all tracesofthe thick oil.Itisessential to lubricate themotorbearings with a good quality thin oil such as sewing machine oil. PICKUP. Two typesofstylus are necessary for playing the different typesofrecords.A stylus having a point radius of .0025isr
30、equired for the standard78r.p.m. (coarse groove) recordsandone with a point radiusof .001formicrogroove (fine groove) records. TheModelTAlMark IIisdesigned to take a variety ofturnover pickup headsorsingle purpose plug-in pickup heads to suit the individual owners require- mentsandcare should be tak
31、entoensurethatthe correct stylusispresented to the record. Turnoverpickup headsarecorrectly set when the speedofthe record to be played appears ontopof theturnoverknob.Ifthere is an arrow on theknob it indicates the direction in which it should be turned when a changeisrequired. Itisrecommendedthatt
32、he styluspressurebe checked periodically with aGarrardStylus Pressure Gauge. Also its useisessential shouldanothertypeof pickup be used otherthanthatsupplied with the unit, as some adjustmentforthe differenceinpickup weight may be required. Thestylus pressure adjusting screwislocated .at the rearoft
33、he pickup arm, andtoadjust the stylus pressure, the knurledknobshould be turnedtogive either an increaseordecrease in spring tension. Page Seven www.radio-workshop.co.uk Themaximum recommended stylus pressurefor all typesofrecordsis10grammes.Should trouble be experienced with the reproduction from a
34、 pickup, the head should be returned for examination to the manufacturer whose nameortrade mark appears on tbe cartridge. Pickup cartridgesmustnotbeopenedorthe manufacturers will disclaim all responsibility. NOTE. A continuity testcannotbe carriedouton crystal pickups withanohmmeter. Should there be
35、 tendency for the pickup to track incorrectly, check the pickup stylus pressureandadjust as explained above if found other than10grammes; also make surethatthe flexible lead to the pickupis not twistedorheld in such manner so as to prevent the free movementofthe pickup arm, and see that the associat
36、ed levers are free. AUTO STOP MECHANISM. Theauto stop mechanism for automatically switch- ing off themotorat the endofa recordisof the velocity type andisofa special design to be very light andsensitive in operation.Itisset to commence operation when the stylus reaches a2tradius.Thestop operates by
37、theautostop lever being raisedbya small cam attached to the turntable spindle when the pickup armruns in on the record run-off-groove.Theautostop lever, on being lifted, trips the catch lever and operates theautostop.Ifthe auto stop fails to operate it may be causedbythe auto stop lever being too lo
38、w and it should be raisedbygiving the auto stop lever adjusting screw (Diagram1)abouthalf a turnina clockwise direction. Theslideoffbase.containingaspiritlevelforcheckingthe leveloftheturntable,shouldbefilledwhen used with arecord changer,this willgivethepressurelabovetheturntable face,thisbeingthemeanreadingferastackofrecordsas used onrecordchangers. Withthebaseremovedthereadin
40、gistakenasnearaspossible totheturntaoletop,thestyluspressurethusbeingmeasured attheequivalentheightofonerecord. TopreventexcessiverecordwearwhenplayingMicrogroove (FineGroove)Records,theturntableshouldbequiteleveland styluspressurenotexceed10grammes. Pretedyourrecordsbymakingaperiodicalcheckofstylus

Where the pickup moulding (shell) only is supplied,itwill have three leads, makingitsuitable for fitting either a MonauralorStereophonic Pickup Cartridge. As only two leads will be required for a Monaural Cartridge, the Grey lead willnotbe requi
47、red anditshould be tuckedoutofthe way into therearofthe moulding. Use the Brown and the Black lead (Ground)andconnect in accordance with the pickup manufacturers instructions.
