2、rders. These units play back 2- and 4-track stereo and mbna.ural recordings and record 4-track gtereo or monaural material. Themajor differences in these recordersare in the amplifiers. Recordings can be made from a microphone, radio, phonograph, tuner, or TV set. Speaker jacks are provided for conn
3、ecting external speakers. Model KN-4310 is a complete record and playback unit. Model KN-40?5 contains pre- amps for recording, however, external amplifiers and speaker systems are necessary to play back prerecorded material. These unlts operate at 7 L/ 2, 3 3/ 4, andl 7 / 8 ips. A two-positlon equa

9、 AND OUTPUT JACKS O PERATI NG I NSTRUCTIONS Magnetic lnput I and Magnetic lnput ( Model KN-4075 onlyl Used to eonnect a phono with a magnedc cart- rie to the unit. External Speaker I and External Speaker 2 ( Model KN-4310 onty) External speakers can be connected to the unit by inserting the speaker
10、plugs into these jacks. When e:rternal speakers are connected to these jacks, the speakers in the unit are disconnected. Threading the Tape I. Plaee a full reel of tape on the supply spindle and an empty reel of the same size on itre tate- up spindle. 2. Unwind about 18 inehes of tape and thread it
11、through thehead slot making sure the shiny side of the tape is facing the front of the recorder. 3. Insert the end of the tape lnto one of the radial slots of the reel. Rotate the reel several times to secure the tape and take.up any slack. To Make a Monaural Recording l. Thread the tape as describe
12、d under Threading the Tape. 2. Insert the plug from the microphone or other program source to be used into the proper input jack. 3. On Modet KN-40?b, press down on the Head Elevator tab marked l/ 4 Track. 4. Turn the power on and allow sufficient ttme for tubes to warm up. 5. Select the speed to be
13、 used byrotating the Speed Selector to the desired speed. 6. Set the Egualization switch to correspond to the speed being used; I 7/ B, g 3/ 4, or i ty Z tps. 7. Turn theChannel Selector swltch to the Channel I position. 8. To set the record level before beginntng the actual recording, press and hol
14、d Aown the ne_ cord Interlock button and adjuet for the correct recordlng level. 9. Tobegin therecording, holdtheRecordlnterlock down and at the same ilme, rotate theplay-Stop control to the play posttion. 10. When therecording is finished, rotate the play- fi _ Stop control to thJStop positidn. U x
15、 4 -Track Monaural Recording S 6 Use thesame procedure asdescribed under to 9 I Make a Monaural Recording. After track I is com- pletely recorded, do not rewind the tape. Turn the X 3 reels over and rethread the tape. Leav! the Channel Z O Selector in the Channel I position. The material will i. Et
16、now be recorded on track B. When track 3 is com_ 6 E pleted, turn the tape over. Move theChannel Selecto, i h switch to Channel 2 and continue recording on track i - _ to the end of the tape. Leave the Channel Selector in i 4 the Channel 2 posltion and turn the tape over. Now fr f the material will
17、be recorded on track 4. E B To Play Back 2-Traek Stereophonic Tape I d (Model KN-4075) 5 l. Thread the tape as described under Threading the Tape. 2. Push down on the Head Elevator tab marked l/2 Track. 3. lloye the Play-Stopcontrol to the play position. On Model KI.I-43I0, switch the speakers on by
18、 movlng the Speaker switch to the On position. 4. Adjust the Volume controls to the deslred ligten_ lng level. 5. To stop the tape, move the play-Stop control to the stop position. At the end of the tape, the transport will shut off automatieally. To Wind or Rewind the Tape Move the Rewind-Forward c
19、ontrol to the direc_ tion desired. To stop the tape, move the Rewlnd_ Forward control to the center position. To Make 4 -Track Stereophonic Recordings l. 20、source into the proper lnput jacksl Channel I and Channel 2 input. Place the Record-Playback head to the 4-track position by pushing the Head Elevator tab marked I,/4 Track down. Preset the recording levels by pushtng down on the Record Interlock button and holding it down while setting the record l
21、evel for each channel. To begin the recording, hold the Record Inter- lock buttondown and at thesame tlme, move the Play-Stop control to the PIay posltion. When side I is completed, turn the tape over and record side 2. To Use the lndex Counter When making a recording, eet the index counter to 000 p
22、osition when the tape is threaded on the transport. At the end of each selection, note tre read- ing of the index counter. This makes it posslble to find deslred selections when played back. To Erase the Tape If it isdesirable to erase the tape without read- ing new materlal on the tape, follow the
23、normal re- cording procedure, however, disconnect the inputs andturn the Record Level controls (Model KN-4075) or Volume controls (tvtodet KN-4310) to the maxlmum counterclockwlse position . DISASSEMBLY 2. 3. l.Place theunlt on a level surfaceand remove the Itd. Remove the push-on type knobs. Remove
24、 the screwe securlng front and rear escutcheons andpull up on escutcheons. Remove Record Level indicator plugs on Model KN-40?5. UnsolderRecord Level indicatorleads on Model KN-43r0. 4. Remove screws from head cover (5) and re- move cover. 5. Remove screws securing dress plate (?) and remove dress p
25、late. Remove screwa holding input panel plate and remove plate. Remove screws from sldes, baek, and bottom holding transport in the case. PuIl transport up and out of the carrying case. On Model KN-4310 unplug speaker leads. To reassemble the unit, reverse the foregoing procedure. 6. 7. 8. 9. ADJUST
26、MENTS To Align Record-Playback Head ( Model KN-40751 l. Place the head in the up position by pushing tlte left tab of the Head Elevator down- 2. Connect an AC VTVM across the left channel output. 3. Thread a 4 -Track prerecorded alignment tape on the -transport and move the Play-Stop control to the
27、Play poeltlon. 4. Loosen the stde mounting screws and raise or lower the head until the top ee of the tape ls even witJr the top edge of the upper pole piece. 5. Adjust the azlmuth adjusting screwfor maxlmum output as read on the AC VTVM. To Align Record- Playback Head ( Model KN-43 t 0l The Record-
28、Playback head on the KN-4310 ls permanently mounted tn the 1/4 track positlon. The same procedure may be used for the KN-4075. To Align Erase Head Loosen mounting nuts and set tte Erase Head (10) so that the top edge of the upper pole piece ig even wtth the top edge of tte recording tape. PAGE 4 Bra
29、ke Adjustment l. Check to see that the Brake Arm (49) ls per- fectly parallel with respect to the Speed Selector mounting bracket. 2. To adjust the brake arm (49), loosen either the right- orleft-hand screw holding thebrake cord to the motor mounting bracket. Taking up slack or releaslng tension on
30、brale cord moves the brake arm lnto the proper position. NOTE: If brake tension is adjusted, the Auto- matlc Stop switch adjustment must be checked. Pressure Roller Tension Adjustment l. Wtth nopower applied, move the Play-Stop con- trol to the Play position. 2. Ustng a pull scale connected to the p
31、resaure roller, determine the amount of pressure re- quired to pull the pressure roller away from the capstan shaft. Pressure should be from 22 to 24 ounces. 3.
