Wire L o ss In Central Ampl ifier Systems Once you h ave an idea of h ow many speakers are to be wired tog eth er in a run, estimate h ow long th e wire run will be f rom th e f irst to th e last speaker in each run. I nclude th e lead- in wire leng th f rom th e
2、amplif ier to th e f irst speaker in each run in your overall run leng th . For each run, sum up th e speaker power and cable leng th s. With th at inf ormation, ref er to th e Wire Loss C h art to ensure th at th e wire g aug e is suf f icient to support th e power and cable leng th f or th e run.
3、I t may be necessary to increase th e wire g aug e, split th e speaker loads, or sh orten th e wire run leng th s if th ey exceed th e ch art maximums. B ecause all wire h as resistance, some of th e voltag e at th e source is lost or dropped in th e wire bef ore
5、it reach es th e targ et destination. Th e amount of voltag e lost in th e wires is af f ected by th e resistance or g aug e of th e wire and th e cur- rent f lowing in th e wire. Th is is classic Oh m s law in action. I f th e drops in th e cables are not anticipated, th e f inal vol- ume level at
6、th e passive speaker may not meet th e require- ment or, f or a self - amplif ied speaker, th ere may not be enoug h D C voltag e available to th e speaker to allow th e built- in amplif ier to operate cleanly, or at all. Th ere are dif f erent ch arts f or centralized and self - amplif ied speakers
7、 to determine th e maximum cable leng th s th at sh ould be allowed. I n th e case of central amplif ier systems, try to keep th e system power lost in th e wires to 1 0 % or less. H owever, less power at th e speaker is th e only neg ative ef f ect larg er losses h ave on th e system. C larity, int
8、ellig ibility and f requency response are unaf f ected by larg er losses in th e wiring of centrally amplif ied systems. Self - amplif ied systems are particularly sensitive to losses in th e wire, especially th e amount of supply voltag e th at is lost in th e wires on th e way to th e self - ampli
9、f ied speaker. Wh en th e drop in th e wiring becomes too larg e, th e speakers may beg in to distort or stop f unctioning altog eth er. For th is reason it is important to adh ere to th e maximums sh own in th e tables below. Vo l tage Dro p In Sel f-Ampl ified Systems Th e most important wiring co
10、nsideration with self - amplif ied speakers is to ensure th at th ere will be enoug h voltag e available at each device to allow its internal amplif ier to operate correctly. I f too much voltag e is dropped in th e wires leading to a speaker, th is may not be th e case. Once you h ave an idea of h
11、ow many speakers are to be wired tog eth er in a run, estimate h ow long th e wire run will be f rom th e f irst to th e last speaker in each run. I nclude th e lead- in wire leng th f rom th e power supply to th e f irst speaker in each run. A lso sum up th e C U rating s of all th e speakers on th

With th at inf ormation, ref er to th e Voltag e D rop C h art to ensure th at th ere are not too many speakers loading th e wire used in th e run or th at th e wire g aug e is suf f icient to support th e power and cable leng th desired. To stay with in th e ch art leng th limits, it may be
13、 necessary to eith er create a sh orter run containing less speak- ers or double up on conductors in th e cable to ef - f ectively lower th e g aug e of th e supply wire. Th e Reducing Gaug e C h art can be used to de- termine wh at ef f ective g aug e is ach ieved by doubling or tripling up on pairs in th e cable.
